COLUMBUS, Ohio More than 100,000 people are believed to be infected with the coronavirus, according statements by officials with the Ohio Department of Health during a Thursday afternoon news conference.
That number accounts for around 1% of Ohios population.
"We know now, just the fact of community spread says that at least 1%, at the very least 1% of our population is carrying this virus in Ohio today," said Dr. Amy Acton, Director of ODH. "We have 11.7 million people."
According to the Governor Mike DeWines Office and the ODH, cases are expected to double every six days.
"Whenever you know of 2 people that have it due to community spread, then you can assume that 1% of your population has it," said ODH Press Secretary Melanie Amato, citing a 2017 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report from the CDC.
Currently, Ohio has five confirmed cases of the virus. Three of the cases are in Cuyahoga County, one is in Stark County and the newest caseannounced Wednesdayis a 55-year-old man in Trumbull County.
The man is the second known case who contracted the disease via community spread.

(26,587 posts)There's no conceivable justification or excuse for the lack of mass scale testing at this point.
I'd gladly volunteer for the firing squads for the people found guilty under the next administration.

(32,025 posts)If there were 100,000 with the virus then there should be at least 1,000 dead in Ohio with a 1% death rate. Where are they?

(1,527 posts)My 86 year old mom was admitted with a cough and was tested negative for the flu Wed after having a low blood glucose episode.
My sister who went up to be with her said that the ER waiting room was completely full of coughing people. They did not test my mom for Covid19, and sent her back to her Assisted living facility today. Probably just a bacterial infection. Everyone hopes so anyhow.
But are any of these people being tested?
If not, then any deaths are "just the flu".
