A previous tweet of this quote did not make it adequately clear that it is Trump who did not push for adequate testing, not Secretary of Health and Human Services Azar. Here is the whole quote for context. @ddiamond

It's just unbelievably shocking that the United States of America, home to some of the top hospitals, doctors and health systems in the world -- a rich, modern country -- literally doesn't have enough tests, to even get to step one in controlling this coronavirus outbreak.

It may not be long before the GOP is willing to get rid of him. He's become too much of a liability.

Officials said that dozens of classified discussions about such topics as the scope of infections, quarantines and travel restrictions have been held since mid-January in a high-security meeting room.
Staffers without security clearances, including government experts, were excluded from the interagency meetings, which included video conference calls, the sources said.
The sources said the NSC, which advises the president on security issues, ordered the classification.

(36,075 posts)what Trump "thinks" or "intends."
He's busy presidenting right now. So, from evidentiary standards that already took months in the last impeachment, this particular claim of one "interpretation of intent" fails to show any "pattern" of intent to undermine the election in THIS pandemic context, so no.
We've got a pandemic. We can't stop it AND impeach him again, too. The House worked itself into exhaustion over the last process. Let's not be demanding they do it all over again while thousands die. It will look like something gopers could use in the General to distract from the last real crime.
Hollering for impeachment is futile. We've got enough to indict him once he's out.
The key thing is to get him out, then indict him, not make ourselves look desperate.

The first case in the US
An outbreak of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) that began in Wuhan, China, has spread rapidly, with cases now confirmed in multiple countries. We report the first case of 2019-nCoV infection confirmed in the United States and describe the identification, diagnosis, clinical course, and management of the case, including the patients initial mild symptoms at presentation with progression to pneumonia on day 9 of illness. This case highlights the importance of close coordination between clinicians and public health authorities at the local, state, and federal levels, as well as the need for rapid dissemination of clinical information related to the care of patients with this emerging infection.
On December 31, 2019, China reported a cluster of cases of pneumonia in people associated with the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan, Hubei Province.1 On January 7, 2020, Chinese health authorities confirmed that this cluster was associated with a novel coronavirus, 2019-nCoV.2 Although cases were originally reported to be associated with exposure to the seafood market in Wuhan, current epidemiologic data indicate that person-to-person transmission of 2019-nCoV is occurring.3-6 As of January 30, 2020, a total of 9976 cases had been reported in at least 21 countries,7 including the first confirmed case of 2019-nCoV infection in the United States, reported on January 20, 2020.
On January 19, 2020, a 35-year-old man presented to an urgent care clinic in Snohomish County, Washington, with a 4-day history of cough and subjective fever. On checking into the clinic, the patient put on a mask in the waiting room. After waiting approximately 20 minutes, he was taken into an examination room and underwent evaluation by a provider. He disclosed that he had returned to Washington State on January 15 after traveling to visit family in Wuhan, China. The patient stated that he had seen a health alert from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about the novel coronavirus outbreak in China and, because of his symptoms and recent travel, decided to see a health care provider.

(19,359 posts)so Trump, thinking he could wall the virus out, contrary to his experts, created regulation that would also ignore the real numbers (maybe because of a "hunch"; maybe as a desire to be re-elected; maybe both).
This was a concerted, many pronged effort by these spuds and the truth will come out.

(43,181 posts)By allowing COVID19 to proliferate undetected, Trump created opportunity for Russia and OPEC to undercut our overleveraged oil companies and really all our corporations, creating a financial crisis as the stock market peaked. A perfect Black Swan event.
We are so screwed. There is no bottom to this, and there will likely be, as in many flu pandemics, three waves, the second to hit next winter. Soon, we will look like Iran because we did the same they did - we didn't test.
Buckle up. It will be a rough ride.
