Did I miss something here or am I incorrect about the role

of the Surgeon General? I don't think I have heard anything from or about Jerome Adams, our current Surgeon General in all of this Corona Virus mess. Shouldn't he have a front row seat in the handling of this fiasco? He is supposedly in charge of US Public Health. Am I wrong and if not, where is he?

1. For some reason, he is not there today. As another DUer pointed out, it's all white people today.

The Surgeon General has spoken at some of Pence's trump kissing press conferences.

2. This administration and to some extent several previous, have all but turned SG into figurehead

Technically they have a bully pulpit to advance health priorities but are usually not the subject experts for the crisis issues, whether infectious disease outbreaks or bioterrorism, so they defer to those that are at CDC typically and/or with respect to infectious disease, Dr. Fauci (NIH).

Yes, they are also the senior officer for the Commissioned Corps of the US Public Health Service.

a few days ago, but can't remember what he said. It is odd that he isn't front and center during this.

We don't need no steenkin Surgeon General other than as a patsy and talking head.

C. Everett Koop: The Surgeon General Who Put Science Before Personal Ideology

I remember receiving What Every American Needs to Know About AIDS in the mail. I wish I still had my copy from that time. He did as much as he could while in his position as SG to stick to the science and leave religion and politics out of his job, and it showed. It also likely improved and saved many, many lives.

He wasn't perfect, but he'd be a damned sight better than the placeholder we have now.

He is a Trump mouthpiece, pure and simple.

I've heard him twice since this crisis started - and both times his statements were medically inaccurate, but toed Trump's party line.
