General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDid I miss something here or am I incorrect about the role
of the Surgeon General? I don't think I have heard anything from or about Jerome Adams, our current Surgeon General in all of this Corona Virus mess. Shouldn't he have a front row seat in the handling of this fiasco? He is supposedly in charge of US Public Health. Am I wrong and if not, where is he?

(102,367 posts)Technically they have a bully pulpit to advance health priorities but are usually not the subject experts for the crisis issues, whether infectious disease outbreaks or bioterrorism, so they defer to those that are at CDC typically and/or with respect to infectious disease, Dr. Fauci (NIH).
Yes, they are also the senior officer for the Commissioned Corps of the US Public Health Service.

(25,983 posts)I remember receiving What Every American Needs to Know About AIDS in the mail. I wish I still had my copy from that time. He did as much as he could while in his position as SG to stick to the science and leave religion and politics out of his job, and it showed. It also likely improved and saved many, many lives.
He wasn't perfect, but he'd be a damned sight better than the placeholder we have now.

I've heard him twice since this crisis started - and both times his statements were medically inaccurate, but toed Trump's party line.
