UK likely to impose very serious measures soon to protect elderly. 4 mth quarantine for over 70's.

People over 70 will be instructed by the government to stay in strict isolation at home or in care homes for four months, under a "wartime-style" mobilisation effort by the government likely to be enforced within the next 20 days.

It is part of a series of measures being prepared by the prime minister, health secretary, chief medical officer and chief scientific adviser to prevent the health service from "falling over" and to save lives as Covid-19 becomes an epidemic in the UK.

Other measures already being planned include:

the forced requisitioning of hotels and other buildings as temporary hospitals;

the requisitioning of private hospitals as emergency hospitals;

temporary closure of pubs, bars and restaurants - some time after next weekend's ban on mass gatherings;

emergency manufacture by several companies of respirators that would be necessary to keep alive those who become acutely ill;

the closure of schools for perhaps a few weeks, but with skeleton staff kept on to provide childcare for key workers in the NHS and police.

is out several days for earliest time slot. This started yesterday. Pandemonium set in. Then I tried delivery service. Store said corporate shut it down. So I dragged my butt out to Publix last evening at 8:30. Was pleasant and not slammed. Good stock of items. Came home at 10:00 feeling wiped out. This is just the beginning. Mb it'll level off.

How are people supposed to warehouse all this food and necessities. Or get food delivered if there's no delivery service. Esp. the ones who need the most help.

This is so screwed up. I mean this filthy virus.

First they say she's not up for re-election this summer, now they're saying she has to go into isolation for 4 months?

He's doing nothing to help people. He has no plans to safeguard the elderly and those in the gravest risk.

Can anyone see Trump turning his hotels into hospitals? He'll never agree to forcing other property owners to relinquish their buildings in this national emergency. Likewise he won't exert his emergency powers to compel manufacturers to ramp up production of critical medical equipment shortages and consumer hygiene goods.

Trump will support social welfare funding for the wealthiest Americans, but no money to safeguard ordinary American citizens during this medical emergency.
