What You Can Do For Your ER Medical Community
If your company, or others in your community have access to plastic face shields that can be cleaned with bleach after each use, protective eye wear, goggles, N-95 labeled masks, surgical masks, nitrile gloves, tyvek suits, etc. please ask them to donate these items to their emergency departments around the country.
The masks and other gear are commonly used outside of a medical setting, be it construction, automotive painting shops, wood shops, literally any where that deals with organic chemicals. (Cleaning companies, as well)
As you have probably heard, the Secretary of Defense is releasing 5 million masks from our Federal stockpile. Although this seems like a massive amount, this will buy our Country 2-3 weeks.
As a Nation, we need to all come together as one team and conquer this threat.
We need to protect our Doctors, Nurses and Staff so that we have them for the duration of this pandemic.
Please Keep This Kicked, Please.

They still have nothing, unfortunately.
I had no choice but to buy about $3000 worth of N-95's from eBay before they took them down as they're restricting sales of them. I figured that could buy them some time.
I also ordered some plastic face shields that can be bleached down from Harbor Freight.
I just feel like my hands are tied at this point.
I'm just so worn down...

aloud to my hubby, my voice cracked; you touched me too. We moms understand each other's concerns.
I've a 32yo son now living in Brooklyn where an explosion of new cases was reported today. He video called tonight to reassure me he's ok, staying in, and fixing all his meals at home.
Possibly, local NASA labs could have a stock of these supplies they could donate. Will find a phone #/ email addy to ask about this tomorrow. (Hubs is retired NASA guy.)
The country's in a great crisis. We all must be thankful for medical teams like ones your kids belong to.

I'm glad to hear that your husband is safe and staying in. That's the best thing for his safety. You do the same, if possible.
We only had a few cases and then they began doubling quickly. There's no testing unless you're already in need of hospitalization or a vent.
We turned into a red zone overnight, it seems.
The streets are eerily empty, like a ghost town.
Nothing is open.
Thank you for the idea of NASA. Someone told me to try calling the dentist's office today. They're closed and only open for emergencies. Unfortunately, they have low stock.
I did call 3M and am going to be in contact with them again tomorrow, as well as several news agencies that would like to speak with me.
I spent at least $5000K on supplies for my kid's safety on eBay. It'll take them about 2 weeks. You do what you have to do to protect those you love.
I'm not going to sleep. I'm too wound up.
I'm going to sit here until my son wakes up to go into work, make him breakfast and load him up on vitamins, can't hurt. I'll then make a dumb joke and try to get him to smile, tell him I love him and cry like a baby when he leaves wondering if he's all right.
Many that have minimal cases in their States are in for the shock of their lives. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect "this."
It will affect everyone and from what I understand from my sons and their colleagues (who call me of all people for comfort) it's going to be extremely bad.

So sorry: I left out an important word in my post & that was "son." It's my son living in Brooklyn. Very sorry about that. My hubby is retired & in his 70's.

I have had my mother hibernating now for a month. She's fine with it and understands the risks and why she needs to do this. For being stubborn, she's been very compliant.
Virginia is such a beautiful State. I've visited there many times and hope to again, one day.

Their liability insurance carriers would have to ease their standards, as would other agencies governing such supplies.
If we didn't have very strict standards, every jack leg around the globe would be making inferior gear and pushing it to hospitals. Same logic applies to our drugs.

Beautiful, humanist thought but I doubt hospital administrators allowing it through their doors.
that normally restrict what can and cannot enter the medical supply chain and that's a good thing. Every step of the process is controlled and monitored.
That said as a base, we can and obviously are, breaking those rules temporarily just to survive the crisis.
All of us hoping we survive to see the day things return to normal.......
there may well be charity agencies that can funnel funds to hospitals and clinics and some may even accept contributions directly. That way, they remain in control of their proper chain of supply.
Other than that, perhaps offer to buy lunch for your local ER staff!.........

Buying pizza's or donuts for your local ER staff is a wonderful idea!
They're not eating as it is, so I'm sure it would be a warm gesture, provided they can eat it in a much more sterile environment than the ER.
