Italy's lockdown - the bad news - cases 47,021 (+5986), deaths 4,032 (+627)

On March 9, the Italian Government instituted a national lockdown: non-essential businesses and shops were closed. people were not to leave their homes other than for necessities, health, and (essential) work.

Which is still within the period during which one can begin symptoms after contact.

The next two weeks will better show if this was effective. That said, the Washington Post article that did simulations of various precautions found that lockdown was the least successful, apart from no precautions. Reduced or restricted social contact scenarios, at least theoretically, would be more successful in flattening the curve.
