Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDo we deserve a president this stupid? He was asked the biggest, softest, marshmallowiest, candy
coated chocolate dipped question possible. What can you say to Americans who are scared right now to reassure them? If this question wasnt going to be asked, his handlers should have figured out a way to get it asked. This should have been the focus of his presser.
This was a golden {and we know what he thinks of gold} opportunity for him to display some sense of empathy, some acknowledgement of shared concern, a validation of Americas collective need for connection and to know that our federal government has our backs.
He claims to have a really big brain, the best words and is a stable genius. If his self assessment is accurate and his response to the reporter is an example of his big brained, stable genius best words we are doomed.
He clearly views this crisis through a singular lens, totally myopic, self-interested and belligerent. Somehow he has managed to see the covid-19 pandemic as not only a direct threat to his re-election but also to him personally, like its just an inconvenience to the rest of America.
It seems just un-fathomable that we have the 4th stooge as president at a time like this.

(11,749 posts)46% of eligible voters DID NOT cast a ballot. Enough people didn't vote, or voted for Stein and Johnson that it was possible to cheat in key states for Trump to steal the election.
A ton of people actually thought that Hillary Clinton was just as bad as Trump that they didn't participate. They fell for all of the bullshit that was circulating on the internet.
We didn't show up to vote in 2010 either, which gave the Republicans the ability to mes with the Census and reapportion and redraw districts to allow a minority of voters to be WAY over represented in positions of power.
We have and support a media that gave Trump billions of dollars of free airtime, AND they are still doing it by covering his idiotic "press briefings".
So, in many ways, YES we do deserve a president this stupid.

(11,749 posts)Whether you or I did anything directly is irrelevant. We share a country with a bunch of people who would rather watch reality shows and sports than be informed about what their government is doing.
We get the consequences of their actions and inaction.
That is what I meant by We.

(29,096 posts)I just don't agree with you. The majority of Americans voted against Trump, and are thereforeore representative of this country. That said, I don't think we are either "irrelevant" or "deserving" of our current state of affairs

(82,383 posts)He had the chance to show some - but he could not. It is just not possible for him to see past his own interests. That is why he considered the question "nasty." To him, it is painful to have to even attempt to see anything from another's point of view or to feel anything for them.
