As long as it's legit, people can set a price,
and folks can pay what they want to spend.

eBay is escalating its fight against online price gouging during the coronavirus outbreak with a new outright ban on all sales of face masks, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes. The new policy, outlined in a notice to sellers posted Friday, applies both to new listings and existing ones.Mar 6, 2020

(4,483 posts)I've not seen any shortage of liquid soap--Dial is antibacterial, ffs. Let the rubes line up over there.

(34,195 posts)Although many homes and businesses keep large pump bottles of hand sanitizers readily available, it's best to think of hand sanitizer as a portable alternative when a sink and soap aren't accessible. Why?

(4,483 posts)I suspect the person selling antibacterial soap in clear, pump bottles is hoping some buyers will confuse soap, which is (afaik) still readily available, with hand sanitizer, which is not.

(12,205 posts)Antibacterial soap is no more effective than plain old soap.

(65,248 posts)Triclosan has been proven effective on viruses. Same with mold and fungus.
They call in anti bacterial because while more accurately named a antimicrobial, the former rings a more familiar bell with consumers.
Like most things that kill all microbes but are not life threatening poisons to users, it contains chlorine. (It's a ether of 2 chlorophenols. ). Through different mechanisms, reactions that radicalize the chlorine or the oxygen disrupt respiration or reproduction. (The latter is all that matters for viruses.)
So, it's not just for bacteria. Now, whether triclosan is really necessary is a different matter.
Edit: just remembered that triclosan was banned in consumer products. They replaced it with benylkonium chloride. This basically the same compound in disinfecting wipes and stuff like Bactine
The mechanism for killing is the same. Actually even faster.
Sorry about the brain crampl

Not necessarily gouging, depending on these answers. A gallon of liquid is heavy.

(65,248 posts)Walgreen's had it on their website for $2 a bottles. There's about 17 in a gallon, so around $35 worth, but less because a single gallon bottle costs less than 17 little ones. So the mark up is around 40%, but that shipping is ridiculous!

(6,406 posts)...I usually buy a large amount as were in a rural area. Of course, there is always bar soap as well.
