This is Diane here, and I am completely and utterly humbled, thankful, and so deeply, deeply grateful to all of you who donated to me. I have enough to stave off eviction and keep my electricity on. I feel like I have won the lottery, only this is so much better because it came from the generosity of my DU family. And all of you feel like family. Now if PayPal will hurry up and transfer the funds into my account... I am so relieved for my cats, I just can't tell you. I was sobbing last night as I was reading all the messages from you with your kind words, and I had my 16 year old kitty, Nigel, in my lap. He says thank you too, not only because you have saved his home, but also because he loves nothing more than to lick tears off my face or my forearms if I have been sweating (yuck) --he LOVES that salt, LOL.
I do have a question for those who donated to me, though. I will have a little left over. Is there someone else who needs help on DU or should I donate it progressive candidates? I don't feel right about keeping more than I need.
Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart. I will write many of you personally when I get the time today. I am at my job right now, so I have work to do.
Thanks again. Words fail me.
Diane

(22,920 posts)May I make a humble request here?
First, thanks to everyone who supports Wishadoo! in various ways already.
I realize there are pleas for help from every corner nowadays, but if you are able to help support the administrative costs of Wishadoo! so the website can continue to provide tools to help one another, there aren't enough words to express my gratitude. I struggle tremendously myself and hate to ask, especially when I'm posting to ask for help for others, but ask I must. Remember that Glenn Beck branded Wishadoo! as part of the community/socialist/fascist conspiracy on his show, so I know we're on the right track with such endeavors for The Common Good!
Investing in Wishadoo! goes toward the cost of maintaining the site, NOT toward any Wishlist posts. That takes place one on one, between Wishadoo! members, as we just witnessed with catbyte's situation.

(22,920 posts)other than the one looking for work in the North Carolina area. There is one from June to raise funds for a pet's surgery; I need to follow up to check the status of things.
It would be great if people would peruse the Wishlist regularly to see if there's some way they can help, especially since it doesn't always require money.
No doubt most here need assistance with something, so if people would make use of it, I would do a regular weekly or biweekly thread such as this to bring such posts to everyone's attention.
I understand it's hard to ask for help in any way -- I have a hard time with it myself -- but people can't help unless they know what our needs are.
People can also offer things via the Wishlist as well. There are many categories, like craigslist...it's called a "craigslist of compassion."
Thanks for caring.

(22,920 posts)but I appreciate that you think so!
It's what I and Wishadoo are here for: To be of service.
And, goodness knows, because of the criminality of the wealth disparity, disappearing safety net and healthcare dramas, there are many in dire need.
Thanks, calimary.

I was so happy to read the good news about you and your kitties this morning. No one should lose their home because of an illness in the family, especially someone who should soon begin to look forward to cutting back on working and relaxing a little (I'm 63) so that's where my head's at, as some say. Happy for you Diane!

(27,985 posts)Progressives, as demonstrated so often here on this website, are kind souls just wanting to know what to do. You gave us something concrete. That was the best money I've spent all month, maybe all year. Let us help you. We are a community and it's beautiful to see us coming together as we often do.
I was here helping when Andy Stephenson had his sad, early brush with death and I know the impulse to want to pay it forward. Pay it forward later. Now, help you and your cats and of course, your husband. What's happening to you should never happen to anyone. But you have put a face to it. And as you see, we care. We just don't usually having so concrete to help with.
Thank you for being willing to be real, in your pain and desperation. That isn't easy and I'm glad we were able to come through for you!
Hugs,
Terri

(10,021 posts)they need. You are an exceptional person and you should be proud of yourself. I have 4 kitties so I know how you must have been stressed about them. Please keep the extra money - you deserve it and DU'ers wanted to give it to you, and you might need it next month for rent. God bless you and your kitties.

So in the spirit of sharing some DU love, I will be sending OGR (wishadoo.org) something within the next few weeks, and I pray that others will do the same.
As for you, ms catbyte... pay what you have toward future rent. No more worrying about keeping a roof over your head!!

(15,222 posts)I'm so glad that this situation has a good outcome! I wasn't able to participate financially, but I'm glad that those who had the ability to help, have helped.
Catbyte, it goes to your character that you would take the time to actually ask if someone else needed help with the excess that you received. Glad to be in the company of people who are satisfied when they have enough...and then know the importance of reaching out to see if others might need what they have. I'm honored to be a fellow DU'er with you!
I wish you peace and comfort.

Aren't you going to need something next month also or does this get you caught up to where you can manage for a while? Just wondering because I don't want to not donate and you need help again in a few weeks. Please let us know. So glad things worked out for you.

(31,849 posts)though I brought my credit card this morning to do just that, when I saw this post. So darn it, I'm met with mixed feelings ... too late, again/Thank the universe for others being more timely.
But to your question:
I'm pretty certain that the DU Family would like nothing more for you to take whatever overage there may be and do something special for yourself. Life's stress has a way of building upon itself; we must take time out to relieve that when we can. At this moment you can ... so do something special.
Stay Strong.

(982 posts)Put the money in your bank account and hang on to it because there is no doubt you will need it.
Please do not donate it to candidates, all that money ends up in the hands of the media who spend their entire broadcasts lying anyway.
This is so awesome, and exactly the way this nation will recover from the 1% evil doers.
WE are going to survive this, by working together and helping each other, one by one. Somehow we will form real communities again, like in the great depression, and we will overcome, and we will be stronger than ever!

This is extremely useful. No waiting for paypal to transfer $ to your bank account.

(50,130 posts)A person can cash a U.S. Postal Service money order at any post office.
It's a simple way to transact, for those who don't want to use Paypal and/or banks. Buy a money order, mail it to recipient who can cash it at any post office. I used this method for years as an eBay seller.

(10,749 posts)I'm glad we could help. Too often we - and I include myself - take no action in the belief that our little contribution can't possibly have an impact. Well, I think we here at DU demonstrated that this is not always the case.
Keep the money. It was donated with the best of intentions and with your specific needs in mind. I think that's where it should stay. It's not as if you and the kitty cats are not going to need food in the future, and it's always nice to have a little cushion even when things are a little more settled.
