Dick Cheney smears President Obama on 9/11...

On the eve of the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, former Vice President Dick Cheney accused President Obama of taking “sole credit” for the killing of Osama bin Laden and ignoring his presidential daily intelligence briefings. “If President Obama were participating in his intelligence briefings on a regular basis then perhaps he would understand why people are so offended at his efforts to take sole credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden,” Cheney told the Daily Caller on Monday night, quoting a report by former Bush administration official Marc Thiessen that “charged that Obama had attended fewer than half of the presidential daily briefs since taking office.”

But by parroting the claims of Birther-led “Swift Boater” groups, who argue that Obama has overstated his role in the bin Laden raid, Cheney ignores Obama’s repeated efforts to credit the intelligence community and the Bush administration for playing a part in the successful mission to kill the perpetrator of the 9/11 attacks. As Obama explained earlier this year:

Last year, when we delivered justice to Osama bin Laden, I made it clear that our success was due to many people in many organizations working together over many years — across two administrations. That’s why my first call once American forces were safely out of harm’s way was to President Bush. Because protecting our country is neither the work of one person, nor the task of one period of time, it’s an ongoing obligation that we all share.

Obama also continues to receive intelligence information on a daily basis, even if he prefers to read the analyses himself rather than have it read told to him. As National Security Council spokesperson Tommy Vietor told Politico, Obama “receives and reads his (Presidential Daily Brief) every day, and most days when he’s at the White House receives a briefing in person. When necessary he probes the arguments, requests more information or seeks alternate analysis. Sometimes that’s via a written assessment and other times it’s in person…Marc basically wrote a story culled from our public schedule that shows how Marc’s old boss, President Bush, structured his day differently than President Obama.”

OBL was a useful tool for cheney and company. remember when they pulled out the OBL tape during the second election, showing OBL really wanted kerry to win--NOT. There are fools in this country, but we are all not fools. Seems like OBL was the gift that just kept on giving for the last administration. bogus war with iraq, check-war with afghanistan for the pipeline, check-lucrative war profiteering contracts for corporations like cheney's hallitburton, check. and pulling out the old OBL tapes when the american public didn't seem fearful enough.

So, cheney, why don't you tell us why little boots publicly stated he really didn't think much about OBL? maybe, just maybe, because ya'll got your "trifecta?"

Your guy ignored the intelligence that OBL was determined to attack us in the first place. Let 9/11 happen on his watch. And then instead of pursuing OBL relentlessly to deliver justice - he said "I really just don’t spend that much time on him, to be honest with you."

That is a much better way to obtain information that may at times be displeasing.

Employees, people who rely on "the boss" for approval and their jobs may be very reluctant to bring bad news in person, but will write it in a report.

Bush liked person-to-person briefings because he could hear what he wanted to hear and make the person telling him bad news feel like a traitor for delivering it. Bush was a shoot the messenger kind of manipulator.

Obama is simply less of a manipulator in that way. He is more interested in finding out the truth even if unpleasant. I would say most Democrats are that way. That may explain why Republicans perceive us as not being religious. They always want to hear the positive stuff. We are more likely to want to hear the truth and let the chips fall where they may, pleasant or not.

Cheney is not intelligent enough to be able to figure this out or even understand it.

People who read more tend to know more than people who just watch movies or go to meetings to get information. That is my opinion.

Has a voice and an outlet to spew his views. He has been proven to be a liar, WAR CRIMINAL and probably the worst thing to happen to this country in its history. And I am not exaggerating. He took this country down a dark, evil path and misled the American people into supporting something that was wrong and misguided (at best). Many people believed what they were told and dutifully gave their lives in service to their country based on what this horrible, evil man promoted and supported. After the fact, many people discovered the intent behind the actions and how much Mr. Cheney and his cronies stood to make for their "courageous" actions.

It just makes me ill to think how short memory is in people who have been lied to and lulled into thinking our top leaders were doing everything in OUR best interest. Maybe it's the only way they can cope with how badly they were duped. NO one likes to admit they were fooled. BUT damn it, when is someone going to tell this guy that his views are irrelevant, his commentary not welcome and his opinions don't matter any more? OH, and when is someone.....anyone.....going to have the guts to bring charges against him? And anyone else involved in the atrocities brought on by him and his minions? That will be the day when I know that justice is about to be done in the name of all the people who lost their lives or were forever scarred by their wounds. The psychological wounds on the American people needs to be addressed, as well. When our so called leaders carry out evil in OUR NAME, they should be held accountable.

If you're looking for a good newspaper job, kids, try arguing for the most ethically indefensible thing you can possibly think of using faulty logic, blatant falsehoods, and flagrant omissions. It worked for Bush speechwriter and torture-lover Marc Thiessen!

Jane Mayer points out that Mr. Thiessen's book, which is about how torture is wonderful, gets a lot of things very wrong.

The C.I.A. killed Manadel al-Jamadi at Abu Ghraib. There was torture at Guantanamo. The Heathrow plot was foiled by the Brits and the Pakistanis, and not through C.I.A. torture. Al-Qaeda has carried out numerous attacks against "American interests abroad" since the C.I.A. began torturing people. Those are all very well-documented things that Marc Thiessen gets wrong (or lies about) in his book about how much he loves torturing people.

Bush didn't.

People learn in different ways and some, like Bush, don't pay attention very well and don't learn easily.

Cheney goofed and wants to blame Obama.

Obama was not in the White House on 9/11. Obama ordered the killing of Osama Bin Laden. Bush did not. Cheney did not. It's an absurd thing to be jealous about but Cheney is jealous about it.

Bush supporters (like Jeb at the Republican convention) repeat the mantra, Bush kept us safe. Well the fact is that Bush did not keep us safe. 9/11 happened on Bush's watch because Bush was obsessed with finishing the job in Iraq that his father had left undone.

I remember that after the first Iraq War, people were very unhappy about the fact that we chased Iraq out of Kuwait but never unseated Hussein. Bush wanted to finish his father's work and restore honor to the family. That is, in my opinion, why he went into Iraq.

And he persuaded others in the Republican Party to support him by promising that they would be able to pillage the oil fields of Iraq. Of course, the American people ended up with the bill for the war and no control over the oil fields -- and all to make sure that Bush's dad would not end up looking like a fool in the history books. My opinion. Others may have other opinions just as reasonable.
