for president:
Five years ago this month, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski began co-hosting MSNBCs savvy, caffeinated Morning Joe, their daily brew of news, chat, and political opinion. And even though they are both married, with children, their on-air chemistry can come across as charged, even flirtatious, the cable equivalent of Nick and Nora Charles. Recently, theyve been flirting all over the map. First, Joe flirted with the idea of running against Barack Obama. An exFlorida congressman and a moderate Republican, he conferred with fellow centrists just before the primaries, occasionally shuttling around with his friend Mike Bloomberg. (From time to time, Mikas father, Zbigniew, Jimmy Carters national-security adviser, weighed in with sage advice, as did a handful of George W. alumni.) Next, Joe and Mika flirted with CBS about taking over the networks perennially laggard morning slot. (After protracted negotiations, CBS went with Charlie Rose, Gayle Kingand Erica Hill, since departed as co-host.) Now the pair are flirting with none other than Roger Ailes, the man whose Fox News they battle every morning. To be exact: they have started a film-and-TV production company and the first project theyre developing and peddling is a TV drama about the life and times of their volatile competitor. Philip Seymour Hoffman has been mentioned for the Ailes character; James Gandolfinis name has come up to portray Ailess pal Governor Chris Christie. And just to raise the temperature a tad? After the presidential inauguration in January, Joe (no fan of Mitt RomneysIve been very critical) plans on publishing a memoir that will serveno jokeas a vehicle to test the waters for a presidential run in 2016. Take that, Mr. Romney.

Plus, Gandolfini would NEVER portray a scumbag like Christie because he doesn't want to be typecast as a mobster...

(22,871 posts)big push to move even further to the right when Obama wins the election. There's going to be a civil war in the GOP come November,I doubt the more moderate wing will win in the end.

(63,912 posts)the dead intern thing. It's just too fraught with danger.
Besides, if he runs against Hillary Clinton, you can bet your ass who will win...

Goes Chris Christy before Joe (and Mika, is there explaining to do there as well?) even gets a shot at a Democratic opponent.

(51 posts)Joe would deal with Democrats and does. Of think Republicans are morally superior.
Yes he is on the right but like Jeb Bush he's pragmatic.

he got that job as a reward for being one of the most intransigent, confrontational blowhards of the Gingrich/Luntz congress
had he come up today, he'd be among the forefront of uberaholes of the Ryandrian do-nothing congress with which we're saddled currently
his chief characteristic is an indomitable, overarching, bottomless ambition. everything, including his marriage, of course, has fallen along the wayside in service of his bottomless megalomania
this latest admission to interest in runnin in 16 only serves to make his massive personality disorder more obvious
that said, RUN, JOE, RUN!!!!
you and Chris Creosote.....can't WAIT!!

(5,842 posts)I've only seen one Nick and Nora Charles movie and I don't recall Nick being a ill-tempered buffoon nor Nora limiting her input to rolling her eyes and grimacing at Nick's idiocy.
On the other hand Mika and Joe do have the perpetually soused thing (or the impression of being such) down pat.
Just one question though....does Willie or Mike Barnicle serve as the stand in for Asta the dog?

(31,464 posts)I've been saying this since he went on the air. His set change last year cemented it for me...American flags floating slow-mo in the breeze. Now, if he happens to utter some brilliant patriotic comment, his commercial clips are ready-made.
He never wanted out of politics. He was forced out by his dead intern. He was a Bush favorite, in line for a position within the administration. That all came tumbling down when a young woman was found dead in his office.
Of course, that kind of stuff never seriously bothers Republicans. Not like getting food stamps or having an abortion. So Joe's show has to be viewed for what it really is...a live daily rehabilitation come-back tour.

(269,054 posts)I always saw this as the plan but that dead girl in his office will just not go away

(1,185 posts)Rightly or wrongly, he may still have an intern problem. I felt his resigning at the time was in exchange for further investigation. I just remember that (I felt that) Ted Kennedy was allowed to "accept his place" and let the past go, but never the Presidency. I've enjoyed watching Joe occasionally on his show. He's impressive as a conservative...he actually can think and speak at the same time, but is Florida ready to let it go?
Panasonic
(2,921 posts)and increased pressure will make him spill the guts, including Dead Intern Joe who will be out of a job, and probably indicted and ruined.
cr8tvlde
(1,185 posts)interesting just as he puts out some feelers for a run at it. Sounds like "they" are warning him, yet again. No amount of scrubbing will get rid of the stain, IMHO. And as usual, who knows, but it sure looked bad for him.

(37,152 posts)...instead of just a pretty sidekick. Doubt Joe Blowhard could take that though - sometimes it's pretty clear that Mika is following instructions about not standing up to him.
I hope Joe does run so they'll have to get a replacement for him.
