Gun forum change of mood

I monitor one of the large US gun forums as a method of taking the temperature of the other side. It is a tough job sometimes. I used to post there, trying to insert a reality check on some of the nuttiest rants, but gave that up. These folks, with few exceptions, are the right of the right. They are, again, for the most part, hateful, gun slinging, red hat wearing, Hilary hating, foaming at the mouth Trump worshipers. I have been following this forum for nearly ten years and I know the way a lot of individuals think from their frequent posts.

Up until about ten days ago, the silly comments about the virus, jokes and funny cartoons were the overwhelming response to the virus.

The last few days, they have been getting more and more serious, and seemed to accept that we really do have a serious crisis on our hands. The most offensive naysayers have shut down, and adults are starting to control the conversations. There is still no indication that they blame our president for the way he blundered his way through this; that would be too painful for them. What has disappeared, almost entirely, is the word "hoax." But, who knows, once they start thinking and evaluating, instead of listening, with a religious faith, to the right-wing media, they may come to realize what a line of bullshit they have been getting from Fox and the President.

It will be interesting, going forward, to see the reactions if they come to the conclusion that they have been played for suckers for years. It will never be a majority of them because they have too much emotional energy invested, but I think I see some splitting from the herd. Those that do have a change or heart are probably going to be awfully angry when they realize the truth.

My gawd, you must have a strong stomach.

Thank you for all you do to keep an eye on the human garbage.

I've been wondering what will happen if that crowd does realize they have been played for the fools that they are.

are starting to get it, now.

Nota gunner - but my 'unicorn and rainbows' SIL for one, who has been sick in bed for over a week now.

Limit gunners access to ammo, it all becomes more real.

I bought a classic corvette more than 20 years ago, when I was in college and I found a forum called CorvetteForum.com. I actually got a lot of help from the members when I was doing a frame-off restoration of the car. They have a political forum subsection that has always been incredibly conservative. I go on spurts of posting in it from time to time.

It was pretty abrupt how they went from arguing it was a just another flue and just a liberal hoax to taking it seriously. Now they blame democrats for the president’s shitty response when it was them that said it wasn’t a problem all along

These guys always need someone to blame and someone to hate... That way they can play victim and retaliate with self righteous indignation...... until they are wrong. Then comes the denial and they move on to something else to hate/blame/play victim to. Old playbook.. uffda

but it's only temporary. I suffer no delusions that gun humpers will change one iota. Come November they will still vote for him and for other GOPers.

Take that to the bank.

No there will not be a change of heart. One value fairly well entrenched in supporters of the orange turd is they only know how to double down, not apologize, not admit responsibility.

About the time the democratic primaries are done, and we have an actual nominee, they will ramp the crazy meter right past the full mark again. I am not wasting my time on any more of these “people”.

"It's a serious matter that our amazing president is solving single-handedly while Democrat vermin play politics and try to sabotage him."

Even the few who have started to recognize that Trump screwed up will retort with "But can you imagine how much worse it would have been with criminal Hillary or Dementia Joe as president?!"

There's no change of heart on the right. None. They will simply adjust their rationalizations.

There are the even nuttier ones that see this as an opportunity to start a race and class war and "take their country back."

I suspect that as the flue infections and death toll rises, so will domestic terror attacks.

I came from the gun forum you're talking about, if it's the one I'm thinking of. I banned myself though. ha ha. Will never post on there again. There are some Trump haters on there. I am pro gun and I voted for Trump 2016. But due to the way the electoral college works, my vote didn't count for much. I have made a 180 degree change though. I am all in for voting Democrat now. I despise Trump! That joke of an impeachment "hearing" in the senate really pissed me off. I will never vote republican again after seeing that astonishing cover up by the senate republicans.

And now it's clear that Trump should have been removed. Trump is a disaster for the country and has blood on his hands!
