The trauma of buried, unspoken truths

I watched MSNBC's replay of September 11, 2001. It was heart wrenching, of course, to contemplate the lives lost and the pain caused to untold families and friends who lost loved ones.

So much has happened in the past eleven years since this tragedy. During this time since September 11, we can now see painful truths and understand horrible realities about our nation, the neocons, and the Bush Administration.

But no one speaks these truths. Our silence is yet another round of pain and trauma--which is just as horrifying as the terrorist attacks.

Why does no one speak the truth about 9/11?

George Bush received a Presidential Daily Briefing on August sixth that read, "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S." The PDB goes on, "...consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks..."

Then, after September 11--the Republican neocons made a case for war with Iraq, capitalizing on our fear and shock. Clearly, that war was a mistake, and a colossal diversion that has played a significant part in bankrupting our nation and leaving us with a mountain of debt.

After September 11, George W. Bush dismissed the notion of capturing Osama bin Laden and stated that he, "Didn't think about him very much" and that Bin Laden, "was just one person".

How come no one says it? How come no one describes 9/11 as an unprecedented failure of national security on the part of the Republicans and also an epic and devastating failure, in terms of the Republican-led response that rushed us into an unnecessary, tragic, lie-based war that did not have to happen? And furthermore, the Bush Administration failed to capture bin Laden, was cavalier about his capture---and that finally, it took a Democratic Administration and President Obama to take him down?

How do the Republicans get away with spearheading and creating the worst national security failures EVER perpetrated in this country? They failed to protect this nation when they had warnings. Their response was reckless, criminal and caused endless pain and suffering, not only for our nation and for our brave soldiers--but for the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who were killed and saw their nation destroyed.

Not only do they escape accountability, the truth about what the Republicans have done--is never spoken.

That's the real trauma for our nation. That this terrible tragedy happened and that we can't even be honest about the facts of September 11.

Now that we know as indisputable facts that the B*sh mis-administration lied about the warnings it received in advance of 9/11 (the 8/6 PDB was only the last of many), the toxicity of the WTC debris, the reasons for the subseuent wars, the use of torture by US agencies, the true costs of the wars in blood & treasure, and so much more; it's time for the sensible middle of this country to ask what lies were told about the events of September Eleventh itself.

I will not belabor the points here in this thread, but why the nations' air defenses were completely down that day, why WTC 7 collapsed despite no external damage, how both of the towers collapsed promptly & entirely into their own footprints despite asymmetric impacts, how passports of the alleged highjackers were quickly found (undamaged!) amid the vast debris, and so many other questions have not yet been answered. I do not claim to know the answers myself, but I am rational enough to conclude that truthful answers have not yet been offered by anyone in power.

These questions about September Eleventh, 2001 are not the stuff of crazy conspiracy theories. They are the most rational reaction to the lies that have been told, and the truths that have been buried.

...that there are so many more questions than answers.

I tried to cover the big, overarching questions--and you did a great job of digging into the next layers of unanswered questions.

That's where the trauma lies for me, and I believe, for our nation. The narrative of this entire chapter in our nation's history--does not address questions big or small. Despite attempts to keep us buying their narrative, we cannot help but see inconsistencies and glaring incongruities--that are never discussed in any meaningful way.

It's similar to living in a very dysfunctional household where abuse is taking place. Everyone knows what the reality is, but no one discusses it or even acknowledges the obvious. Truth telling and open communication are not allowed. Everyone operates as a normal family, but so much is clearly wrong but never addressed. So you operate within a fake narrative, and you intuitively understand that stepping outside that narrative is wrong--and will get you ostracized or banished. YOU will become the target and YOU will become the problem--for speaking the truth. You the truth marinates inside you, with nowhere to go.

Just like a dysfunctional family--we feel uneasiness and anxiety as a country because our leaders, our politicians and the media do not discuss the real truths nor do they address the obvious reality. So we continue to internalize that anxiety and sense of uneasiness while trying to hold up the narrative that we've been given. It's getting harder and harder to do that.

It's very disconcerting.

Thank you for laying out so many questions that arise when you peel back those layers. I wish I had more solutions or answers. However, as more people begin to question and challenge the narrative--the more we evolve toward breaking the narrative and unearthing the truths.

I still believe in what America could and can be as a free nation and a diverse people united in a common Constitutional republic. But for the potential to be realized, we need to discuss the 'abuse' (good analogy CoffeeCat) out in the open, and call the abusers to account.
