from paper towels to coffee filters to diapers to tee shirts.

From what I remember, doubling up tight knit cotton (like a tee shirt) was about as effective as any other material. One of the criteria was breathability. If the materials are too difficult to breathe through, there isn't much point in using them.

I can probably find it if someone is jonesing for the info.

I'm cutting up all my husband's tee shirts. He has a lot of them. And the hems can be used to make ties.

From what I've read, standard surgical masks are very effective for the former, not so effective for the latter. At least part of it has to do with the ability for the mask to have an airtight seal around its perimeter.

After 2 weeks of confinement , I just realized I was dangerously low on filters. I shudder at the thought of a prolonged quarantine without proper coffee, the horror ! ;o)

I got a metal coffee filter a couple of years ago. Pour overs. Apparently I "equipped my inner barista." And it was either that or surgery to have the sucker removed.

at my supermarket. I'm not sure why, but maybe people are using them as makeshift masks.

I have a percolator as a backup coffee-maker, and a French press as a second backup.

I haven't used either in years, though, but they're there in the pantry closet, if needs require them.
