Florida woman:

Crying at Winn Dixie. The woman in jeans stepped up and paid for the groceries of the young man in front of her whose card was declined. He was on the phone frantically trying to figure out how to get $$ to pay. “We all have times like this,” she said. People can be amazing

Also, for the record since this is important apparently, the Claws + milk + flowers are mine; the flour and spices are hers; the young man’s groceries were already bagged and he had almost $75 worth of items, including baby food.

I had this opportunity at Costco once. Young man in front of me buying just $20 worth of something (don't remember the items) and his card was rejected. I just added it to my bill. We all need to take care of each other these days.

One of my favorites was a boy buying an ice cream at the store, digging into his pockets for the money. I added the treat to my bill and he was ecstatic! You would have thought I bought him a car!

At store getting snack stuff & juice.
Woman & about 6 year old boy behind me & he grabbed a bag of Skittles. She said no, because she couldn't afford with work closed.
He had already put it on the belt, and I just slid it to my juice bottles. Then, once it was scanned, I grabbed it & gave it to him.
I just said "Be a good boy for mom.". His mom seemed happy. So did he.
I know. It was just a buck.

I was in line at Publix a few months back when a young woman with two kids was caught short of $ while checking out; her food stamp card wouldn't allow her to buy several necessary items. Several people in line immediately offered to make up the difference, and we all chipped in a few bucks. Despite all the divisive bullshit we're constantly being subjected to, the vast majority of Americans are kind, generous people.

occasions. For those whom ever worked Retail, especially Groceries, your sixth sense kicks in within a millisecond. Where we regularly Shop, the Cashiers and Front end Managers are super great at handling these types of situations.

One time not too long ago I was a cashier at a store where people who worked in a large wilderness shopped as it was the only one they could make it to via snowmobile and they only came to town once or twice a month. One day a young guy came in and gathered up his groceries for two weeks and then realized he left his wallet behind. It was a three hour snowmobile trip. I bought his groceries and asked him to just pay me after he was paid and could make it into town since I was poor too. He came back on payday and paid me back, it was over $100. It was glad I did it even if he didn't come back.

Once a woman several spaces ahead left without her food and I asked the clerk who said her card was rejected. When I went outside, I saw her getting in her car and went up and gave her forty dollars. It is always sad to see that happen.
Another time a guy was short of cash buying basic food items, and I was next in line buying a big box of wine. How could you not?

A couple had a several bags already packed, I could see baby food etc. They were $40 short. I couldn't see the clerk emptying enough to cover it. It all comes back to you, one way or another. They wanted my name etc to pay me back, but I declined and said to help someone else in the future if you can.

However, a few years back I was working the information desk at the local hospital, which at the time was right outside the gift shop, which also sold sandwiches, snacks and so on. Every so often I'd get someone asking for a couple of dollars for food. I'd tell them to go inside the shop, pick out what they wanted, and then get my attention. My employee ID allowed me to buy stuff there, and I think with an employee discount. Anyway, it was easy to do.

At least once I gave someone cash for a taxi ride back home.

A story for all. I used to collect money, for a nationwide charity, by standing along side the road. People would pass thru, stop and throw a five, ten or twenty into the container. These were middle class, average joe, working class people.

I was dumbfounded to see one of the most famous NFL football players in History, come through and throw in a quarter......

vs who is is selfish and greedy. I'm glad this wasn't another hoarding post or empty store shelves.

Florida Woman

I searched far and wide looking for disinfectant spray because I've only been using green products at home the past several years. I found a 4 pack online and pounced on it, then gave away 3 bottles to elderly neighbors. A store employee practically admitted that many store workers will keep such high demand items for their own families before putting it on the shelves these days.

There’s a well known man in my community who is homeless. He never bothers a soul and one day he was behind me in Aldi. He had a few bottles of water and juice and some packaged sandwiches. He’s fishing out coins from his pants. I told the cashier I’d pay and then told him to go get anything else he needed.
He didn’t say a word but the look on his face was all I needed.

W as at store buying spices. Asi I handed the clerk my money, the woman behind me said, "I've got this" She explained that it was her deceased mother's birthday, and shhe honoured Her mother's memory every year by paying for someone 's groceries. What a lovely idea.

I have been both recipient and giver of "pay it forward " at my local coffee shop.

And I used to get cash coupons at one of my supermarkets, but never bought enough to use them, so I would just pass them out. One time, the woman tried to give me the money. I told her it was for her, and I thought she was going to cry. It was only a few dollars.

I see such generosity and kindness at our stores and shops here, it I lovely.

in a clear plastic bag.

I figured that she had just been released from some where so when she went to Communion I put a $20.00 bill on top of her
bag.
When she returned to her pew she grabbed the 20, her bag and took off. Usually people kneel and offer up their Communion for something but I guess she was in a super hurry.

but I did get scammed (almost) once. Two girls said they were hungry. I offered to buy them food. They disappeared. Probably to scam someone else.

I do remember this one guy standing outside of the grocery store with his family. I offered to buy him some food if he could wait while I went in. Halfway through shopping, he came into the store to tell me that his family was being kicked off the property. I stopped what I was doing and walked him over to Lil Caesar's pizza, bought him a pizza and some soda. It was an easy $10.

Similar, there were two girls begging at the gas station. They said they were hungry. I offered them a pizza and they were so excited. They also followed me to Lil Caesars for pizza and drinks.

I will always buy food for someone who is begging.
