So I voted today - my story about voting in Delaware

Today is primary day in Delaware for non-presidential elections. And living in Wilmington it's a huge voting day because many of the city positions are determined at the primary level since it's very very rare for a republican to win council or mayor positions. We'll still have those elections in Nov but whomever wins this dem primary for mayor would be our next mayor.

I've read so much about all the voting issues in other states so I wanted to see what it would be like in our state for someone without all the 'right credentials'

First and foremost this is the location where I vote. All legal, nothing to just to 'get me' with.

I took my driver's license and put it in a hidden pocket in my coat. Worst case if I could not vote without it I would have 'found' it and used it to vote.

Instead when I voted I took 3 things. I had my voter ID card, which states on the back is not needed to vote along with my last utility bill and my work photo ID happened to be on my drivers license. My order to hand ID over would have been as followed - Voter ID/Utility bill first, Work ID second and drivers license last case resort.

I got to the polls and the lines were pretty light - it's Tuesday and most folks are working. I am too but I happen to be working from home today.

I got up to the table and when they asked my name I put down my voter ID card on top of my last Delvarva utility bill. The lady looked me up, had me sign and then in a few minutes I got to vote.

Isn't this how voting should be? Before anyone votes they have to sign in the book that says I am who I am and if I'm not I could be held accountable for voter fraud. That signature can be compared to my original voter registration/driver license should someone suspect fraud.

Now if we can do something about those damn touchscreen voting systems - I do NOT like them BUT they were easy to vote with. Just no receipt - yuck!

1. That is the way it used to be in PA. Give your name, they look it up in the book of registered

voters, you sign by your name, you go vote. No fraud, no problems, no long waits etc. Not so this year. This year you have to have a government issued, currant dated, photo ID. We have a Voter's Hall of Fame in this state. If you vote in every election for 50 years your name goes on the wall at the hall of fame. This year, 47 people who's name is on that wall will not be allowed to vote because there is no official record of their birth. They were born at home before births were required to be registered with the state and they have given up their driver's licenses years ago.
