Vice President Joe Biden began his day on a very somber note: He traveled to Shanksville, Pa., to commemorate Sept. 11 at the site where Flight 93 crashed.
But things lightened up considerably when Biden made an unannounced stop at the local volunteer fire department, where a pool report (written by Peter Baker of the New York Times) captured some classic Biden moments.
Brad Shober, a deputy fire chief, told reporters there that Biden already owed him a beer from an encounter last year, which led to White House invite Tuesday from Biden:
Shober, holding a Coke Zero, told your pool that Vpotus last year had given him one of his vice presidential challenge coins and told him, Next time I see you, if you have that coin, drinks are on me. If you dont have it, drinks are on you. Now knowing that he might come, I made sure that was on my pocket. Since Vpotus didnt have his coin to show him back, he made the spontaneous invitation to come back to DC.
Biden appeared serious about honoring his pledge:
Win, lose or draw, Im still going to be vice president in January. They should come, he said. Thats a deal. He added: I give you my word. Im not just saying it.

Hes going to call you, no bullshit, Biden, pointing at one of his aides, told Shober. Then he realized the gaggle of reporters standing a few feet away and cleaned it up a bit.
"I didnt know you guys were here," Biden said. "This is no malarkey. You come to the White House. Ill buy you a beer.
To mark the 11th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks, Biden led a White House delegation to Shanksville, where United flight 93 crash landed after a group of passenger attempted to fight off their hijackers.
Along with Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, Biden joined in the remembrance of the the 33 passengers and seven crew members who perished in a heroic attempt to prevent the Boeing 757 from reaching al Qaeda's intended target that day.

And that makes me feel connected to them, and makes me support them even more...
inspite of the things I disagree with them on.
