https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-germany-coronavirus-ww2-enemy-allies-russia-putin-a9435906.htmlDonald Trump is suggesting the United States should treat Germany more like an enemy because the two countries were adversaries in World War II as the president again lobbied for closer US-Russian relations.
If he turns the off-the-cuff remark into US policy, Mr Trump would try fundamentally overhauling the post-World War II global power dynamic that saw Western countries bring Germany into their sphere while combating Moscow and fighting the spread of communism in the post-war era. But with little opposition to the American-German alliance in Congress, especially the GOP-run Senate, such a plan would face ample pushback including from within his own party.
Mr Trump, during another wildly cascading "Fox & Friends" call-in, launched into a remarkable diatribe about Germany and Russia and how the United States should treat each country after being asked about what he and Russian President Vladimir Putin would discuss during a planned telephone conversation Monday morning.
The American leader repeated his long-espoused view that it would be a "good thing" if Washington and Moscow had a warmer relationship, noting he has been saying so since he was first a presidential candidate. Despite his five-year-old contention, the Cold War adversaries remain rivals on the global stage.
Ok he's gone totally insane now and oh yes, PUTIN!!!

(54,436 posts)As one who has been living in Germany for years, I can tell you that the Germans, from Merkel on down, know perfectly well that Trump is no more representative of the people of the United States than Roseanne Barr is representative of mezzo soprano singers at the New York Metropolitain Opera. I have plenty of friends here in Germany and in most neighboring countries. Holland, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, they ALL know what an absolute dork Trump is, and what kind of idiots he has working with and for him.
Unfortunately for Vladimir Vladimirovitch, the people of these countries have been meeting Americans for decades, and they know perfectly well that outside of a few boorish tourists and arrogant businessmen, Americans are nothing like Trump. They never were, and never wanted to be. They know perfectly well that he is parroting what Putin wants--a rift between the two countries. It won't work. There are Americans over here, in quantity, and who do NOT fit the stereotype any more. We speak THEIR language, we respect THEIR culture, and we are not in the least ashamed to say we long for Obama and the Clintons, and abhor Dick Cheney and Donald Trump.
The most Trump will accomplish with talk like this is to intensify the impatience among our allies for Trump's departure, and I can tell you from here in the heart of Europe that the impatience is growing with every day. But it's not directed at you or me or us as a nation. They consider him a superficial cancerous tumor--one that is ugly and disturbing, but, if removed in time, not in the least life-threatening.

Thank God, that we are all on the same page - we want him gone!

(54,436 posts)Not just students or taxi drivers. It's the waiters in cafés in Catalunya, it's the bankers in Switzerland, it's the hotel reception workers in Belgium, it's the shop owners in France, it's the carpenters in Germany, it's the members of Parliament in the Netherlands. I speak the languages of all these countries, so it's not like I had to seek out only people with doctorate degrees in English to talk to. That is one barrier I am not burdened with. Here, it really is everybody.

(54,436 posts)They sent out some feelers here in Germany about a German-language version, but there are still laws on the books prohibiting Nazi-like propaganda, and they were told in no uncertain terms that their kind of "reporting" did not pass the test.
The Germans told them: "We decide. You don't report."

(9,997 posts)That he will have any influence in this regard? He has 7 months of his errant spew left, where he COULD act like an actual president! Plus 75 days of the "Greatest" Lame Duck petulant sniveling the world has ever seen, beleive me!
In wars of old, his kind were called "collaborators". Their have a high mortality rate, and a very short life when the fates turn and order is restored. Perhaps it is time for the identification, and naming of these collabarators. Justice is done, by making sure that innocents are spared when the inevitable happens.
