Beau Biden says Romney/Ryan don’t get veterans

(For those who may not know, Beau Biden is an Iraqi war veteran. He's got the cred Romney's sons don't.)

WATERLOO, Iowa --- In a close-fought presidential campaign, veterans and the military have become a battleground.

President Barack Obama criticized his challenger, Mitt Romney, for not mentioning the war in Afghanistan or the soldiers fighting it when Romney accepted the Republican nomination. /snip

Biden spoke of the Obama administration’s increased funding for Veterans Affairs, tax credits for businesses hiring returning soldiers and the level of care given to wounded warriors. Then he turned his attention to the Republicans.

“And you can contrast that to what Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have to say about veterans,” said Biden, adding a long dramatic pause for the 25 people listening at the Iowa Veterans Museum. “And it’s deafening like that. I haven’t heard what they have to say about veterans. The silence is deafening.” /snip

In Iowa, Romney campaign spokesperson Shawn McCoy criticized the Biden message.

“It’s disappointing that the Obama campaign would come to Iowa asking for the support of veterans despite President Obama’s broken promises to our men and women in uniform. The President’s call for defense cuts will eliminate an estimated 5,000 jobs in Iowa and force military families and veterans to pay more for healthcare. Governor Romney will never hold national security funding hostage for political posturing,” McCoy said.

Biden shot back that it appeared the Romney campaign didn’t understand the issue, that the budget for defense spending is completely separate from care for veterans.

“The president has given the Pentagon everything it has asked for in terms of meeting the defense needs. From Secretary Gates on through Secretary Panetta,” Biden said. “They want to add $2 trillion on top of that. At the same time, they want to take $11 billion or one-fifth of the budget going into the future out of the VA. It makes no sense.”

Repubs only care about using a person for war, they don't care what happens afterward. Especially Mitt. He has no ties to anything in the military.

Solidarity with veterans instead of throwing them in the garbage after they've been used up as cannon fodder?
