Maxwell's Food Store has been a family-owned business in Auburn (NY) for 90 years. Scott Maxwell, his wife, Bobbie, and brother, Larry, are the third generation to run the small neighborhood store. During the coronavirus pandemic, the Maxwells find themselves working harder than ever as customers look to them for the comforts they need during these troubling times.

The family-friendly environment is evident versus the big chain grocers. It's the kind of place where everyone knows your name. The fear of the pandemic is not lost on the Maxwells as Scott is currently battling serious health issues that put him at a higher risk of illness during the pandemic. Yet he shows up for work each day, with his family and a couple of employees, because it's what the Maxwells do — serve the community.

I grew up 2 blocks away from Maxwell's. It was a daily waypoint for my mates and me on our way home from school.

It's a virtual time capsule. I haven't been there in over a decade, but looking at the pictures, it is *identical* to how I remember it. And the Maxwells in the photos all worked there when I stopped on my way home from school (albeit all of us were 40 years younger).

When I read this article this morning, it brought a tear to my eye. As terrifying as our near future will be, this reminded me that we all have milestones and touchstones from our journeys through life that we can look back on and find slivers of comfort to help us through this.

After this is over, I'm going to go to Maxwell's and buy a handful of Pixie Sticks. Perhaps they won't be able to weather the pandemic, but this is one grocery store and family that has a good chance of making it. I know this store - I'd put money on its survival.
