I feel a big hole in my heart right now thinking about what is transpiring. Much of my career life was centered there and over the years that place grew on me like it was home even when it wasn't. So many years, memories, people. If I had any medical training that could be useful in this crisis I'd be there yesterday. I have nothing to offer. These times of helplessness make the hours of sheltering in place damn hard. I'm just one old dreg wasting time while my NYC family who held me up as well as kicked my ass are in a fight for their lives. I'd proudly die there fighting to preserve life. All I can do it watch and hope.

(13,485 posts)My first experience in the city was in '75 when I lived for a winter on the 11th floor of the Empire Hotel on 66th and Bdwy while studying; I was 19. Then I worked in that general vacinity years later off and on for about 20 years. Good days.
