Even though we didn't follow their every move (fortunately our press isn't as aggressive that way toward children as the British are) we were always reminded of their existence, and the loving relationship they had with their parents.

When Obama was president (sigh...) we watched Sasha and Malia grow into beautiful young women. They were shown on family outings and at WH functions, and we could see them develop into the beautiful young women they are today.

Once, Michelle told Ellen Degeneres that when Malia insisted that her date be allowed to drive her to the prom in his own car. After she and an almost tearful Barack met the understandably nervous young man and had the obligatory picture taken, they watched the young man drive off with their beautiful daughter in his car -- followed by three black SUVs. "This makes running for a second term all worthwhile," Barack said. "My daughter is being followed by men with large guns to prom."

Young Barron is a cipher. When I saw a rare picture of him this week, I was amazed at how tall he's become. I feel sorry for him. Not only does he have a narcissistic jerk for a father, he'll forever be associated with the man who will go down in history as the worst president ever.

I hope Barron is able to carve out a place for himself in the world, as his half-sister Tiffany has.
