By Ben Armbruster
An adviser to Mitt Romney referred to foreign policy as a distraction in this years presidential election. While President Obamas campaign continues to focus on the administrations foreign policy successes and the lack of national security experience from the Romney ticket, Romney aide Robert OBrien accused the Obama campaign of going from one shiny object to the next:
The Romney campaign, however, doesnt think national security is a winning issue for Obama.
Romney foreign policy advisor Robert OBrien called the Obama campaigns tactic a transparent ploy to distract from the sagging economy, including a recent jobs report that was a disaster for them.
It doesnt surprise me that theyre raising foreign policy because its another distraction from the Administrations terrible economic record, OBrien told BuzzFeed. Theyre going from one shiny object to the next.
Romney has received widespread criticism even from leading Republicans for ignoring U.S. troops and the war in Afghanistan in his speech to the Republican National Convention.
But OBriens claim that foreign policy is a distraction squares with a wider theme of Romneys campaign. Another adviser told the New York Times back in May that Romney doesnt want to really engage these issues until he is in office. While it seems clear that the so-called Cheney-ites are running things behind the scenes, Romney has avoided much public discussion of foreign policy. Even his own advisers and supporters have no idea what Romneys foreign policy is and his recent foreign trip that was supposed to be a slam dunk in beefing up his security bona fides bombed, spawning the not-so-flattering moniker Romney Shambles.

Maybe this is why Romney and his allies are trying to exploit/create international incidents.

President Obama got a convention bounce, but some of the numbers are horrible for Mitt.

I've said from the beginning that Willard has terrible people. Just when I think it can't get any worse, they keep talking!

(14,177 posts)But, of course Romney is going to call it a distraction. He certainly can't tout his ability to deal with foreign policy. The guy can't talk to our allies without becoming a joke. He is the only politician I know of that got mocked by 80,000 people in a foreign country. He deserved it too. He is absolutely the worst candidate ever. His campaign is a shambles. Reminds me #RomneyShambles I think that was started by the Brits after his visit. I guess this isn't actually a gaffe. But, a clear attempt to keep the focus off of Mitts inadequacies which are legion. Can't wait for the debates.

My hunch is that ALL of USA's "foreign policy" operations will be privatized,
i.e. contracted out to Halliburton, Project for the New American Century,
Blackwater, et. al.

(17,201 posts)Adelson has already decided what romney's foreign policy would be, so it's all settled as far as he's concerned. What's to discuss? Don't bother his beautiful mind with such trivialities.
