Wisconsin Supreme court seat loss is an unmitigated DISASTER for the GOP........

In a year where a global pandemic lead to 175 of 180 polling locations in Milwaukee (a Democratic stronghold) being closed, and absentee ballots were tossed because somehow they didn't get a postmark... this should have been a CAKEWALK for the GOP. Despite a mass voter suppression effort where voters literally had to RISK THEIR LIVES to vote in blue areas, the GOP STILL LOST.

In a state drumpf HAS TO HAVE in 2020, this isn't just a canary in a coal mine, it is a reason to absolutely PANIC not just for drumpf but for rethugs all across the nation up for election.

In 2016 about 200,000 people voted in Milwaukee county's primary. 100,000 voted in the GOP primary. This year 180,000 people voted. Even if you assume ALL the rethugs stayed home since there was no contested presidential primary, that is still a 10% drop off due to voter suppression, and the gop STILL lost the seat!!!!!!!!!

This bodes VERY well for November.

There is still a LONG way to go, and lots to happen between now and November.

Putin and GOP dirty tricks have yet to rear their ugly heads in full. Yeah, the GOPhers tried this time, and got beat, but they ain't takin' yes for an answer, not when their power and money are on a knife's edge. Vladdy-Daddy is bound to try something.

So work your asses off as if this was a crushing defeat that we have to overcome. Becuz there is still shit ahead--count on it.

Article from March 30 after tRump talked his little shit about what oversight he would or wouldn't accept as he signed the bill:

Nancy Pelosi Is Already Talking About the Next Stimulus Bill for Coronavirus Relief

In a signing statement on Friday, Mr. Trump suggested he had the power to decide what information a newly created inspector general intended to monitor the bailout money could share with Congress — in effect ignoring some of the oversight conditions.

But Ms. Pelosi made it clear that if the administration did not honor the conditions, it would receive no cooperation from Congress on future legislation to deal with the pandemic.

“We have passed legislation with conditions in it,” Ms. Pelosi said. “I believe they understand that it isn’t the last bill that will ever be passed, and if they expect any future cooperation on anything else, that they should honor this bill.”

Still, she said that Mr. Trump’s tendency to undercut what other members of his team agree to in complicated negotiations made it more difficult to hammer out the kind of relief plans that are needed in a crisis.

The above if from near the end of the article, but the whole thing is interesting...

I imagine their favorite tactic with purging the voting lists in states that don't have same day registration.

And every one lives in a state that does have it - bring what ID/documents you need to re-register with you when you vote, just in case.

Vos and Fitzgerald were fighting for their political lives, because their lives depend on Wisconsin's maps being gerrymandered to shit. Those maps netted the GOP 64 percent of the seats in the Wisconsin Assembly on the strength of 46 percent of the actual vote. Dan Kelly would have blessed that gerrymander for all eternity, which is why Vos and Fitzgerald were willing to risk the lives and health of millions of their own constituents to keep him on the court when the electoral districts get redrawn after the 2020 Census. (And if we can oust conservative Chief Justice Patience Roggensack in 2023, we can take this court back.)

But in the short term, Kelly would have greenlighted the purge of 200,000 voters from the rolls before the November election. With Karofsky being sworn in on August 1, that plan is dead. The court will still have four conservatives and three liberals, but conservative Justice Brian Hagedorn voted against the purge last time, and Kelly had recused himself. With Kelly out and Karofsky in, Democrats at least have a fighting chance against whatever insane vote suppressing fuckery the GOP is plotting for the fall.

https://www.wonkette.com/wisconsin-gop-vote-suppressing-f-ckery-bites-em-in-the-ass

Kelly presumably recused himself because he had an upcoming election then, and so had an interest, but would have been able to say "this doesn't affect me now". See:

The Wisconsin Supreme Court won't hear an expedited appeal of a ruling that could purge more than 200,000 names from Wisconsin's voter registration list, leaving the case in the hands of a lower appeals court for now.

The court split 3-3 Monday on whether to take the case immediately, with newly elected conservative Justice Brian Hagedorn joining the court's liberals in voting to deny the petition. Fellow conservative Justice Daniel Kelly, who is up for election in April, declined to hear the case.

My parents came from there...traveled east during the Great Depression when the factory my father worked in packed up and moved to New York and told their workers they could keep their jobs if they followed along. Of course it would be at their own expense.

Sadly, I watched as the right wing Republicans of Wisconsin demonstrated time and time again that they didn't care for laws unless they supported their position.

Perhaps this latest indignity has gotten the residents of Wisconsin to say, as the cartoon character Popeye always said, "That's all I can stand and I can't stands no more!"

Oh! Hurry November, the nation needs you!

Considering that Trump won Wisconsin and the inroads the right wing has made there and the fact that they were counting on the roadblocks this pandemic put in place for their forced primary. With all that an incumbent right wing judge was voted out in favor of a progressive. It's seismic. For the first time in my memory people on OUR side seem to be willing to crawl over broken glass to vote these fascists out. Onward to November!

Trump and his ilk have unwittingly woken up a LOT of people!

Think of all the special elections that have either been won by Democrats or have been far, far closer than they should've been.

Think of the Dems winning a Senate seat in Alabama.

Think of the 2018 elections, when they got the shit kicked out of them and Trump wasn't on the ballot. Now imagine it when he IS on the ballot.

This Wisconsin judicial election is the cherry on top!

People are seriously WOKE and PISSED. I hope the blue flood this fall makes Noah's flood look like an April shower.
