Shelby County gets 'D' grade for social distancing

[link:https://wreg.com/news/shelby-county-gets-d-grade-for-social-distancing/

The county currently has a "D" grade when it comes to social distancing. The grading is done by a company called Unacast, which compiles data by tracking cell phone locations.

According to the numbers, Shelby County residents are traveling 25-40% less since the outbreak and going to nonessential places 60-65% less.

In the Nashville area in Davidson County, residents are traveling 40-55% less and visiting nonessential places more than 70% less. Davidson County currently has a "C" grade.

“What the means for Davidson County is that two weeks from now, they will be experiencing less number of patients who are sick, who are critically sick and in the ICU compared to [Shelby County],” infectious disease expert Dr. Manoj Jain said.

I see it everyday as I watch neighbors interacting with others from my porch. People standing 1-2' apart, chatting about remote control cars, lawn mowing, etc, etc.

What is wrong is when neighbors are congregating in very close proximity, strangers driving up to homes looking to pick up side jobs AND people are standing 1-2' apart chatting it up. Oblivious to soc distancing concerns. I have seen police do same with neighbors twice in 3 days. Without masks, mind you.

They're building up a coronavirus hot spot and apparently don't know it. High population density and high poverty is a very bad mix.

I see the governor is riding on tRump's bandwagon......

A newly-appointed Economic Recovery Group will detail strategies to "reboot" Tennessee' economy next month, Gov. Bill Lee announced Monday afternoon. Tennessee Tourism Development Commissioner Mark Ezell will lead the group.

The news came hours after Lee joined a phone call with Vice President Mike Pence to begin coordinating the phased reopening of the nation's industries, one region at a time.

"We understand that this decision and this reboot and the steps we're going to take have to be made with consideration that safety and health of Tennesseans is utmost," Lee said. "We can't sacrifice the safety and health of Tennesseans. But we also can't keep our economy shut down."

42 Memphis firefighters still in quarantine

During the Memphis-Shelby County COVID-19 task force's daily briefing, Fire Services Director Gina Sweat said 42 firefighters with the Memphis Fire Department are in self-quarantine following exposure to reported cases of COVID-19. Sweat also said that more than 150 firefighters have been in quarantined or self-monitoring for COVID-19 symptoms, as first responders are particularly vulnerable to contracting the coronavirus with every shift they work.
