This is beyond destruction. t-rump is bent on destroying the USA and kill as many of it's citizens.

(10,185 posts)Or does the POS see himself as Captain Bligh having his mutinous crew flogged and keelhauled? Trump's mixed metaphors make my head hurt.

(37,160 posts)Now, states sorting it out themselves is "mutiny".

Although if you asked him now, he'd probably say it was Brando who played Bligh. Or maybe Bogart -- why not mix up movies as well?

(32,084 posts)I seriously cannot believe this lunatic sack of shit is allowed to remain in office. "Captain Bligh" Trump needs to be keel-hauled, along with Moscow Mitch, John Roberts, and the rest of his toadies.
Turbineguy
(37,331 posts)trump is not up to Bligh in "Men Against the Sea".
If he'd read the book he would have known that.
Trump is more like Fletcher Christian who's inability to cope with petty grievances condemned so many people around him.

(66,369 posts)No one would call him the most likeable guy at sea, but the cultural depictions of Bligh as a bitter, middle-aged petty tyrant are the exact opposite of the real man.
He was only thirty-five at the time of the mutiny. And although he was a strict disciplinarian (one had to be, to command a ship in the Age of Sail), he avoided floggings whenever possible, preferring verbal reprimands.
He had highly-progressive views on the care of his men. He did everything possible to ensure their continued good health, having fresh fruit and vegetables well-stocked on board ship any time, in the era before refrigeration, it was possible.
The only reason his men mutinied is because they had gotten used to the lazy, slow-paced, idyllic life in Tahiti, where they had sailed in order to obtain breadfruit plants for the West Indies. After leaving Tahiti, they were slow to resume the day-to-day on-board life of discipline and hard work.

(1,185 posts)Like, when he watches these movies, he takes away something entirely different from what a normal person would. Even what a normal criminally inclined person would.
He's warped and illogical to the point that I think a lot of people can't quite believe ANYONE thinks that way.

(24,259 posts)The president cited the classic as one of his all time favorite movies while lashing out at Democratic governorsbut doesnt seem to get that Captain Bligh is the bad guy.
-snip-
Nevertheless, no versionno possible interpretation of Mutiny on the Bounty shows the mutineers need[ing] so much from the Captain, as Trump has suggested. When Christian and his men set Bligh adrift on an open boat, they are done with him and dont give him a second thought. They return to Tahiti, pick up their women, then split for Pitcairn Island, a very real place with a population of about 50. Its people are descendants of Bounty mutineers. (Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Halls mostly speculative sequel novels suggest that life wasnt exactly a holiday on the island, but at least the mutineers all died as free men, not subjected to Blighs brutality.)
