(82,849 posts)I would hazard a guess that most of the folks who attend Liberty University are the kind of authoritarian-loving followers who prefer to let other people do their thinking. Rising up against the Maximum Leader just because he's trying to kill them - and in a court of law! - would seem an extraordinarily bold step. This may take Jerry Jr. by surprise; he didn't know they had it in them to challenge him.

Maybe we should try to be more like the people we think they should be. When they've grown up, of course.

(37,160 posts)Rev. Moon bailed it out For Jerry Sr. back in the 90s, when he was throwing money around to win friends and influence people among conservatives (such as operating the Washington Times at a loss to the tune of over a billion dollars over 20 years). Now that he's dead, it's less clear whether Moon's successors would do the same.

they believe the flock are theirs to use and abuse - it's why I want no part of any of them. Of course the fact that I have no belief in any gods helps.

As a Reverend he's in tight with the Big Guy. I don't mean God. I mean Trump. Watch for interference from the WH.

(5,610 posts)According to the Billy Graham organization,
"Heaven for the Christian will be a place of glorious life that will never end. Joy inexpressible, limitless peace, pure love, beauty beyond descriptionthats what heaven is. Greatest of all will be the presence of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, with whom we will enjoy fellowship forever."
If I believed that, I'd welcome the chance to go early. But that's just me.

(9,670 posts)Some of them want to be there of their own volition. Others are there because their parents are making that decision for them. For them to make their own lane and file a class action lawsuit against the university is an amazing testament to their fortitude, in my opinion.
A baptist preacher died yesterday after continuing to hold services during the covid-19 lockdown period. He challenged God and claimed that his faith was stronger than any virus.
That's these kids' case in a nutshell. They were the sacrificial lambs that Falwell brazenly (and heartlessly) offered to God in some sort of diabolical oblation. If they died, they were God's good soldiers who stayed in school because God called them to service. If they lived, they'd keep paying those tuitions and praised the Lord for their totally-expected-all-the-time survival. Falwell had it all figured out.
Bet he NEVER saw this coming.

(1,679 posts)we supplied material for the Thomas Road Baptist Church. The company was never paid, and Jerry Falwell basically dared it to sue the church. The boss was possibly a real Christian and let it go as a loss.

Given current circumstances, Im willing to do my civic duty without asking taxpayers to pay expenses or a per-diem. We all must make sacrifices now to preserve the Republic. It would be an honor to serve!
