way to call. Local offices are all closed. The national number says due to the coronavirus, live assistance is unavailable, so go to the website, where there is no place to contact anyone, either. He no longer has a bank account, he got his refund by mail. A few weeks ago he bought a reloadable debit card and when the website went live this morning he tried to give that info only to get a message that his $1200 was deposited to his bank account today. There seems to be nowhere to go to check or find out where it actually went. It is very frustrating.

2. Contact your congressional representative.

(2,472 posts)It's not his old account, the numbers don't match. He remembered that a few years ago he had his refund deposited in his dad's account, so we're praying that it ended up there. Of course, Dad isn't answering his phone, so we don't know yet. Once we know for sure his dad didn't get it, we'll call our congressman's office. I should have thought of it myself, but I was freaking out and it didn't even occur to me to call him, so thanks!

(55,019 posts)any new situation is going to have some fuck ups, think about it. give the banks/IRS/your selves a little time to work the bugs out. waiting until the day they roll out the checks to try and solve one person's issues is bound to be frustrating.
I don't think they load to cards anyway. I would suggest he contact his old bank and talk to them. They may be able to figure something out if a deposit was made to an old account.

(17,482 posts)and the deposit failed for the account being closed or a name mismatch, the IRS would mail a check in 1 to 3 weeks to the address on the return.
I suspect the stimulus payment might work the same way.

(2,472 posts)any way at all to contact somebody. You can't call, you can't email, you can't do anything but sit and wait. And we are doing that, but it's getting difficult. I got SS for the first time last year, not enough to file, so guess what my dumb ass did? Had him claim me as a dependent because the idea of nobody getting a deduction for me seemed silly. Now it means I don't qualify to get the $1200. I have $2.06 left on my card and keep hearing that soon there will be no meat. I have health problems which require me to eat meat and make it impossible to digest most veggies, so I've been freaking out about buying food with that money while we still can. Them making it impossible to ask anyone what's going on just makes it more difficult.

(22,148 posts)That's the message I get when I try to enter either my, or Mr. Bayard's, into Where's My Payment on IRS site.
They don't have either of our bank info, and they won't have the correct address for him. Afraid they'll try to mail it where he was working last year, and it will get hopelessly lost.

(4,533 posts)If you seek direct deposit for a tax refund but entered a screwed up bank number the IRS then mails a physical check. I bet that will happen here.
