Explaining contact tracing: why it's effective, how the U.S. can implement it, and who's working on it#TestTraceIsolate
Countries that have contained COVID-19 outbreaks use widespread testing, tracing, and isolating as core strategies. Our goal is to inform the public, government leaders, health leaders, and to connect people working on this critical issue.

Contact tracing (also known as test, trace, and isolate) is a decades-old process of identifying people who have come into contact with an infected person, testing them, and then isolating them if theyre sick. By quickly finding, testing, and isolating people who have been infected by a sick person, you can quickly limit the spread of a virus.
1. The tracing part can be done via interviewing, automatic digital tracing (a recent, modern development), or public service announcements.
2. Then you notify (call/text) people who have been in contact with an infected person so that they can get tested even if they dont have symptoms.
3. If any of those exposed people test positive, they self-isolate and perform contact tracing based on who they interacted with. This dramatically limits the spread of the virus and asymptomatic transmission.
Note: if widespread testing is not available, people in close contact with an infected person should self-isolate as a precaution.
