(3,596 posts)This was NOT an attack by the Libyan people. This was an attack by opportunist rebels/insurgents triggered by a Youtube posting. These militants were NOT angry about the content of what they saw on Youtube. This was an EXCUSE to engage in senseless violence.
But let's be clear. This was not and must not be considered a characterization of the Libyan people. We must give them a chance to establish an ordered, democratic society. It is going to take some time. There will be incidents, hopefully not this dramatic, that challenge the progress to get there but the will get there.
Enough with the Libyan bating. Look at Breivik in Norway and our own domestic terrorists for evidence of Christian violence. They are more than willing to kill and maim in the name of their "God". Don't confuse the issue - these guys are religious fanatics and terrorists.
