Coronavirus-stricken Broadway star has leg amputated

Broadway actor Nick Cordero is recovering after having his right leg amputated following complications related to the coronavirus, his wife said Saturday on Instagram.

The Tony-nominated actor’s wife Amanda Kloots told her Instagram followers in a story Saturday night that she had heard from the surgeon that Cordero made it through the procedure and he was being taken back to the room to recover and rest.

Earlier Saturday, Kloots had said that while hospitalized for COVID-19 Cordero was having clotting issues on his right leg and could not get blood down to his toes, CNN reported.

“They had him on blood thinners for the clotting, unfortunately the blood thinners were causing other issues," Kloots reportedly said Saturday in an Instagram story. "The right leg will be amputated today.”

Kloots has been updating followers on her husband’s condition via Instagram. He has been hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for 18 days.

clotting complications. How many others is this kind of tragedy happening to? Nick's 42 with a wife and tiny son and obviously has a lot to live for. He survived the surgery anyway.

The pain he was in with compartment syndrome was excruciating, I know. I survived compartment syndrome in my forearm and lost most of the muscles and full use of my hand. It is a horribly painful event and too have it occur with this virus is double agony. Wishing him well as he recovers his health.
