And I love Warren. I love what she stands for. She inspires me every time she speaks. She was my pick for the Democratic nomination. But no. Not after couldn't even win her own state. It's a bad idea. And with big media currently pumping her up... I am more convinced than ever, it is a horrible idea.

(1,086 posts)Biden has been clear he is looking for alignment in a VP. It will take a lot for anyone else t overcome the advantage she has with that criteria.

(3,974 posts)She is from a solid blue state and doesnt help flip any swing states like Florida or North Carolina. She wont help energize the African American which has to come out like they did for Obama. And she is even more centrist than Biden so she wont help attract progressives.

(7,412 posts)She had a lackluster primary performance and did not enthuse Democratic voters. She was positioned to finish 3rd or 4th at best in her home state of CA.
My money is on Klobuchar or Michigans Governor being his first choice, they would add much more in the swing states where a Senator from a state like MA or CA can actually be a liability in the general election.

(112,300 posts)I don't see where including Warren on the ticket helps to deliver the swing states needed to win the general election. Some of the other options might sway enough voters that we win the state and Electoral College delegates.

(16,646 posts)When Obama picked him? I don't remember stellar primary performances by Biden. In fact I seem to remember he got into a plagiarism problem early on.

(5,256 posts)For example, she would probably destroy Pence in the Veep debate. But there would be endless questions about how she reconciled her stances in the primary with Biden's. And the one time she was really questioned heavily in the primary season - about paying for MFA - she didn't really respond very well IMO.
Then you have the issue, perceived or not, of two white 70+ people on one ticket.
Finally, we lose her Senate seat for at least a few months unless the MA legislature changes the law. But the GOP will cry that the Democrats are changing the rules and break out violins - and they'd be right.
There are simply better choices. I personally want to know more about Catherine Cortez Masto.

(3,697 posts)None of the women candidates fared well in the primaries if that's the criteria. I haven't noticed big media pumping Warren up but I could be missing it. I think the best choices would be Whitmer then Harris. There's no general consensus on who it should be so there will be some disappointed people regardless of the pick.

(1,086 posts)VP is not a policy position. I'd like to see her at Labor for a Francis Perkins echo.

(11,990 posts)Heck, when it came to health care, Bill Clinton made first-spouse a policy position.

(1,086 posts)But Hillarycare sort of proves my point. Even Bush only handed Cheney implementation.
But Biden for sure doesn't see it as a policy position.

(11,990 posts)And I'd say Cheney guided a lot of policy.

(1,123 posts)We have a Republican Governor, there will be a special election, but what if Charlie Baker decided to run? I can't stand him, but his approval ratings are very high here. He plays a moderate game, but he's a Republican through and through.

(11,990 posts)In a general election, you're appealing to a different pool of voters than you did in the primaries (or in this case, a mere handful of primaries), and you are up against different competitors.

(24,417 posts)I'm worried more about the fact that both she and Biden are elderly and that we would (at least temporarily) lose Warren's Senate seat to Republican.
