Ohio and Kentucky have their largest daily increases in COVID-19 cases

as people in the 2 states call for lockdowns to end

The states of Kentucky and Ohio saw their highest single-day increase in the number of COVID-19 cases so far on Sunday amid ongoing protests in the states about whether to relax state-mandated social distancing guidelines.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced Sunday the state had 253 new cases since Saturday. The Ohio Department of Health reported 1,353 new cases on Sunday, according to the report, which also marks the state's largest jump in new cases.

Kentucky residents have over the past week protested Beshear's "Healthy at Home" order, which closes non-essential businesses. On Friday, protesters circled the state capital in Frankfort in their cars, honked their horns, held signs that demand the order be lifted, and waved American flags.

Protesters could also be heard shouting on Wednesday as they stood outside the state Capitol briefing room and protested while Beshear delivered his daily briefing on the pandemic, WDRB reported.

DeWine and Acton have tried, but there’s only so much that can be done with an uncooperative citizenry.

There’s a group of my neighbors talking loudly to each other outside, in close proximity with none of them wearing masks, as I type this.

But wasn’t that big jump due to the prison in Marion? Over 1200 tested positive there, I believe.

Because they did massive testing there--now, they are doing testing at the prison in Pickaway Co. and we can expect another jump. Other states aren't doing this type of testing.

Ohio inmates make up nearly one in four of the state's coronavirus cases following a spike in identified infections as universal testing takes place inside three state prisons.

Figures released Sunday show 1,828 positive tests at Marion Correctional Facility in north-central Ohio, out of about 2,500 total inmates, according to the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

In addition, 109 employees at Marion have tested positive, out of a total of about 350 workers, which includes about 295 guards. One Marion prison guard died earlier this month.

Systemwide, 2,400 inmates have tested positive and six have died, including five at Pickaway Correctional Facility in central Ohio, where 384 inmates have tested positive out of a population of about 2,000. Even the head of the prison guards' union, Christopher Mabe, is in self-quarantine after his wife, a guard at Lorain Correctional Institution, tested positive.

The spike in prison infections sent the state’s tally of cases on Sunday to more than 11,600, which includes 471 deaths.

Kellyanne Conway, a senior adviser to the president, said Monday she likewise believed some governors had taken too strong of measures to protect their residents from COVID-19.

"Some of these governors have physically distanced from common sense," Conway said during an appearance on Fox News.

There are 200 new cases on Sunday. On Saturday, there were 13,495 cases, on Sunday there were 13,625, making 140 new cases - not 1353. Check it out for yourself:

https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/dashboards

There were large jumps on the 16th and the 17th - a combination of more testing + the CDC definition of "confirmed cases" that changed on the 14th (which Ohio started including mid-week). Aside from the jumps that are akin to China's redefinition of case on 2/12, Ohio's curve is still bending.

Yes, we have idiot protesters.
