I'm watching the news about gyms, hair salons, and pizza parlors re-opening in GA and FLA, and it's pretty clear to me that we are heading straight for another outbreak, a bigger, nastier outbreak.
I think that I am going to continue social distancing through the end of the year.
--Edited to add--
Trump will take full credit if we open up, and there's no spike. Trump will blame the states if we open up, and there is a spike.

(61,695 posts)There is no iceberg.
We won't hit an iceberg.
I knew it was an iceberg before anyone else.
No one knows icebergs better than I do.
The penguins brought the iceberg here.
No one could have predicted the iceberg.
We cannot allow an iceberg to stop our ship.
The crew is spreading fake news about the iceberg.
Some of you have to drown.
I am the best captain, ask anyone.

(12,712 posts)All things total, it looks rather clear that there has been a lot of freedumb at work to assure a new spike.
I would say that it will spike heavily about the first week of May, which is what the Economy Worshipers of Mammon Inc., ("here at Mammon Inc. there are some things more important than life!" are hinting as a potential time to reopen.
I also think that surge could be bigger than the first wave we are just on the other side of due to the exponential spread concept.
We will see if those people who did exactly the opposite of what might have been a crucial key to a clear sign that reopening would be feasible and safe have quashed and botched it due to immaturity, naivete and selfish concerns. They are part of the problem, unbeknownst to them and their ignorance concerning the responsibilities that COME with freedom.

(13,086 posts)So we are going to divide between those with the privilege to keep themselves safe-ish, and those who will have no choice but to put themselves and their families at risk.
And yes, if the idiocrats go ahead and open up, history tells us we will re-invigorate the pandemic. It is a senseless tragedy when we could have had a stunning success. 87% of the US population is doing some sort of isolation right now, and it is working. It appears that is going to stop.

Kentucky and Ohio - seeing a spike in CV cases, along w/ demands to 'open up the state' from protesters.
I guess the formula is that (1) the state has a republican governor (2) the state has a healthy supply of able-bodied idiots, ready to die for their misguided beliefs. Ah, perfect formula.
All while the idiot-in-chief stays in the WH, desperately seeking a way out of the mess he created/mishandled.

(57,073 posts)I have no idea how any of the funding pools work, but they seem to hsve stolen the small business funds.
So they get to kill a bunch of people, get their almighty stock market up and force people back to work (because if rehire is offered & workers decline, they lose unemployment benefits), thereby potentially freeing up all that extra funding that is/was allocated for unemployment.
And, a bonus: by forcing people back to work, when they can continue to work from home (eg. fed employees), they can raise carbon emissions & further destroy our beautiful planet.
I am guessing the natural progression of the pandemic will explode.

(18,402 posts)(Illinois), and that is probably optimistic. Chicago mayor is now saying stay at home order will likely extend into June.
My expectation is that parts of the state, mostly outlying and or rural, may start to ease restrictions somewhat in early May, but here in Chicago, where the preponderance of cases have been and continue, we may be talking more like mid to late June.
