WH claims Trump's disinfectant 'ingestion' idea taken 'out of context'

Trump suggested controversial ideas at Thursday's coronavirus task force briefing after calling up Bill Bryan, an official from the Department of Homeland Security's science and technology division, who presented new research on COVID-19.

The president, playing off what Bryan said and without evidence, went on to suggest:
"I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? As you see, it gets in the lungs, it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that," the president continued.

The White House claimed Friday that his comments, which many medical experts call dangerous or even deadly, were taken "out of context." White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said. "Leave it to the media to irresponsibly take President Trump out of context and run with negative headlines."

It wasn't clear, and the White House did not elaborate, on what, if anything, was taken "out of context" in news reports quoting the president's own words as seen on national television and streams.

Lysol's maker issued a statement warning people not to consume the product.

The context was, he was standing behind a podium with the presidential seal on it, on national television, giving a briefing about the coronavirus, and he stated that "it would be interesting to check" the idea of INJECTING DISINFECTANT INTO PEOPLE.

What other context was there?

When you can’t defend the indefensible, you go on the attack. This time it’s the media.

Sad. Truly, but there’s no getting around the fact that Agent Orange said we were “testing” the internal use of disinfectants to kill the novel Coronavirus.

Just like his impeachment, no amount of spin is going to bleach out that stain.

People are surprised that I understand it. Every one of these doctors said, 'How do you know so much about this? ' Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president."

I just noticed in this quote that Trump has no clue how many years his uncle taught at MIT, so he fills in “a record number of years”.

This is clearly emblematic of how Trump operates. He comes up with some radical idea that is preposterous. It is based on his own lack of touch with reality. He won't let the medical experts lead on medical issues. Clearly, his undersecretary and his medical adviser were too afraid to contradict him. There is so much revealed in the one conference.

So he didn't come flat out and say that people should ingest or inject disinfection, so he conceded that doctors should check out his idea to see if it held promise, so he "admitted" that it might not work, so what? It's still crazy.

In fact it would have been crazy for any President to muse out loud in any press conference about any untested approach to combating a pandemic even if the idea wasn't crazy on the face of it. To have such an inflated ego that he seriously believes he would dream up a new approach to combating an infectious disease that no other expert in the world had thought of is crazy right there, but potentially tolerable IF he had sufficient sense to pass that idea along in private and not insist that time and resources go into researching his hunches unless the professionals thought the idea had merit. But that's not what Trump does. Because he is crazy.

No amount of spin can undo what he said, and it is insulting to the people to suggest that it was taken out of context. Trump said it, I believe it, and that is the end of it.
