I know you were being sarcastic, but I don't believe we have the most cases.
China & Russia, I think are worse, and Iran has WAY more per capita. Those satellite photos of mass graves being dug vs. their declared infection rate makes the mortality rate 80% or more.
When all the countries come clean, I think we're going to find some massive hotspots currently grossly underreported.
But, I agree that this immigration ban is a stupid idea from a floundering, desperate, stupid person.

It's successful. We should be like Taiwan.

As of last week, Taiwan and the PRC were still quarrelling.

There's a large-ish group of Taiwanese citizens who were barred from returning to Taiwan. PRC wants them airlifted out. Taiwan doesn't want the possible source of infection.

Imagine that Trump had a group of 100 Americans stranded in N. Italy and refused to allow them to return to the US. Just imagine the shitstorm.

We admire the results some countries got. We reject some of their means, and focus entirely on a subset of their methods. Just the ones that provide domestic ammunition. Which was more important? Or maybe the methods worked because they stopped new infection vectors from showing up even as they tried to squelch those present.

The US--with a lot of political criticism inside the US and out--stopped flights or instituted screening in very late January. Taiwan instituted it on Jan. 3 or 4. In March it became chic to scream the US should have done this earlier, but the media sources later screaming it should have been done earlier were earlier screaming it was not just useless but wrong. The only constant is the screaming.
