Just saw a video on the news about a kid leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

Let me be clear, I will not say that pledge or sing or stand for the National Anthem (which I hate, it should be America the Beautiful) as long as Trump is in the White House.

I'm lazy and hate conflict so that keeps the "This is 'Murica love it or leave it!" types from hassling me.

Every once in a while I say the pledge I once saw in Calvin & Hobbes: "I pledge allegiance to Queen Fragg and her mighty state of Hysteria. . ."

my Dad and 4 of his brothers served in WWII, and the American Legion was where I got my ideas of patriotism, along with alcoholism. The VA Hospital of my youth, and the flag draped coffin, the folding of the flag...the taps and the bagpipes...all rounded out the perception. Strange how those memories have nothing to do with the current concept of patriotism.
