Vice President Pences office has threatened to retaliate against a reporter who revealed that Pences office had told journalists they would need masks for Pences visit to the Mayo Clinic a requirement Pence himself did not follow.
Pences trip to the clinic Tuesday generated criticism after he was photographed without a surgical mask the only person in the room not wearing one. The Minnesota clinic requires visitors to wear masks as a precaution against spreading the coronavirus.

But Steve Herman, who covers the White House for Voice of America, suggested that there was more to the story after Karen Pences interview.
All of us who traveled with [Pence] were notified by the office of @VP the day before the trip that wearing of masks was required by the @MayoClinic and to prepare accordingly, tweeted Herman, who covered the trip as part of his rotation as one of the pool reporters, who share information with other reporters in limited-space situations.

tRump uses magical thinking and too many in White House and Greed Over People indulge in it too. Especially the "trump is the lord's vehicle" crowd.
They think that flattening the curve by physical distancing has released some magical degree of immunity into the population. They don't think of how second and third waves work. It doesn't fit with their wishes, so they stop thinking.
All this push to "open up the economy" is predicated on the magical idea that there really won't be many more deaths if they abandon what is working.

(5,801 posts)Yesterday I went to an oral surgeon's office (first time there), located in deep red maggot territory. Neither the Dr. nor any of his staff wore masks. I'm pretty sure they are all LDS (prevalent in the area and his posted undergrad diploma was from BYU). In contrast, every patient including me wore a mask (except during the exam, of course).
He seemed very competent and I need the work done but am having second thoughts about going back because they are being careless + probably making a statement of defiance/red don support. He and his staff spent a lot of time talking to me. I tried to social distance but it was tough. Exactly the scenario for transmitting the virus if any of them had it. They didn't even take my temperature.
The previous week I went to a dentist in a blue area (neighboring state). Everyone in the office wore masks and they took my temperature before the exam.
