In light of a horrific April that saw close to 60,000 Americans lose their lives because of the coronavirus, bringing the national total to more than 63,000, its fair to ponder whether the U.S. will reach 100,000 deaths.
Researchers are hard at work trying to come up with an answer and theres no clear consensus, but one telling fact stands out: The number of deaths the U.S. endured in April is larger than the combined total during the entirety of the pandemic for the next two countries on the list, Italy and Great Britain (54,738).
How much worse will it get? At one point, White House officials projected 100,000 to 240,000 deaths, even with social distancing restrictions, but they have since lowered the expected figure considerably.
The answer will depend in part on the public response to measures implemented throughout the country, which are starting to get relaxed because of the heavy toll theyve taken on the economy. At least 30 states are planning to reopen in one form or another by this weekend.

(10,130 posts)and other folks dying of it at home and not being reported as dying of the virus, they may well have already hit 100,000 deaths. That's behind the Trump limit on the testing - to limit how many deaths the public find out about - because it makes him look even worse.
Between now and the election, a lot more Americans are going to die of this virus than we're likely to hear about. Trump knows he can't pass obituaries off as fake news. My hope is that he gets caught hiding the deceased numbers - because most will perceive that as an act of a guilty person - someone who fears being held responsible for their poor actions that caused the deaths that happened on their watch at levels well above the rest of the world.
