How does a campaign take a 77-year-old man who admits he needs his granddaughter's help with his cellphone and pitches himself as sober and reasonable and make him go viral?
That perplexing challenge has become a consuming focus of Joe Bidens campaign as it tries to finally up its digital game to compete against a challenger who not only understands intuitively how to generate clicks and buzz but boasts a massive and sophisticated digital operation to amplify his message.
So far, Bidens paltry digital team of about 25 people has decided mostly to eschew the combative fare preferred by the presidents campaign in favor of uplifting content designed to inspire. The rub, as no one understands better than Trump, is that the social media platforms and the algorithms that power them reward bombast and conflict. Amid the collage of newly published saccharine videos posted on Bidens Facebook page, its the Trump-bashing ones that usually have the most views.
But Biden's campaign is betting that its strategy which reminds one of Upworthy, the go-to site for feel-good news has the benefit of being true to Biden and more effective in creating a core of enthusiastic supporters online.

(8,277 posts)We do more than vote.
Not only do we vote, but we vote proudly and with conviction. Flood the landscape with Biden signs.
Why?
Not because he is one man who will do it all, but because his wisdom and experience will bring into the light of day, patriots, experts and those steeped with expertise ready and waiting to serve all Americans.
Biden will be a team builder. Listen to his speeches and you hear.
We must steady our resolve and by our examples, encourage people to vote.
Be visible, show up!

(15,512 posts)Leave Twitter to the orange virus. And Joe has had a few hits with his quips so he's doing fine in the tweet department.

(2,343 posts)But, when he makes his VP pick public, it's game on. Whoever she is, she'll be critical to pointing us all back to Joe as his biggest advocate and cheerleader. The trick will be in not letting the novelty and history of a woman VP not overshadowing Joe. That's why I'm more in favor of a not-so-famous (maybe not the best word choice, but best I could pick) name. Not that they are necessarily in contention, but I think a Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Kamala Harris, or Elizabeth Warren would be the story, as good as they'd be as VP. They'd be the most qualified choices. Rather, I'd prefer he go with a an accomplished but somewhat lesser known Klobuchar, Duckworth, or Baldwin. A somewhat roll-of-the-dice on an Abrams would be the story. As interesting a pick as she'd be, she overshadows Joe.
My pick would be Whitmer. I like governors. I like she's a fighter, and we need Michigan.

(86,794 posts)as people are beginning to see that he is offering a sense of calm and reason which people are desperately seeking right now. He has answers and he is offing hope and a plan to move forward, a positive message. People can't survive on a steady diet of negativity, fear and hatred, Biden is offering a positive path with his message, people are getting weary enough to look for those who will lead.
