I am in Medford so conservative area except Ashland. I havent gone in over 2 months since this began to that store only hubby. He told me there was only a fourth of the people there today no line to get in whereas last 2 times there were lines around the store, no line to check out.
Not sure if it was because it was first day senior day is M-F not just Tuesday & Thursday or masks or people just finally got enough toilet paper and paper towels which there was plenty.
I read on FB posts many people upset at Costco. I thought it was great just hope they dont lose too much business. Hopefully the extra they have made will tide them over in the conservative areas if they are jerks about new rule.
Although it might not just be republicans, one of my closest friends for 25 years a staunch educated democrat who lives in CA and her area is forced masks everywhere for weeks told me in email she drove few hours away to shop without one! I was shocked! She is older than me 70 and fought a long 6 week cough last winter. What are people thinking?

(11,494 posts)The mountains are nearby, lots of wineries, good restaurants not far away. Lots of medical. Homes good price. Great co-op in Ashland, Trader Joes here. People normally even though conservative dont talk politics or religion. This has changed things, lots of complaints.
And I havent met any republicans from Ashland and I go there all the time, its very liberal so they must be quiet there. Lots of money especially in the hills could be money republicans.

(36,516 posts)My husband walks the dog daily, and said over the past few days, with warmer weather and possibly the media talk of states opening up, there were far fewer people were wearing masks than a week or even two weeks ago.
I struggled for over an hour with my sewing machine & got one mask made. I hate to sew. Then I found a video on how to fold a scarf and use rubber bands for the ear piece and I made five masks in ten minutes. And they are more comfortable. And I didn't have to sew!
This virus is going to have a much longer impact on our lives because of the deniers.

I carry one when I walk around the neighborhood.

(25,555 posts)I'm a former nurse and I hate them. I worked in pediatrics, and we had this contagious virus called RSV. We wore surgical masks, gowns, gloves etc, but gosh I would get light headed while working with RSV patients. Fortunately, RSV is mild and we just had to prevent further spread, so I didn't need the concentration skills that one would need while working with someone who is critically ill. All of the hospitalized admits had other conditions such as premature birth etc. (Everyone gets RSV) This was in the 80s.
Masks such as N95s can cut oxygen by up to 20%.
Maybe your friend needs a more lightweight mask.
I do wear the mask though and will continue. I'm mostly doing curbside until this gets better.

(30,763 posts)It makes me hyperventilate. If I have to use my reading glasses, they fog up. I am tired when I get home.
I do it anyway. It is the right thing to do.
