Haven't seen our local bear family yet, snow's melted, but I guess that's a good thing, means nobody is leaving garbage out! (no vacation rentals)

Out on a back road out of Darrington. The driver stopped and we got out of the car (I know). Mamma came charging out of the woods and we jumped in the car and hitailed it.

to start the car and there stood a bear. We looked at each other and I spun about to go right back inside.

My husband said "That was quick. I need to leave soon."

I told him he wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.

I did the driving during heavy snows at the time. I was good at it. He got good at it too after that morning.

No way was I trying to reason with a bear to allow me to get in the car.

The bear was obviously hungry. He was trying to get into the nearby dumpster. Tall enough to get the lid up. Strong enough too. We watched from the window.

Work (army) laughed at him but said it happened all the time in winter.

Saw more bears while living there but that time stands out for me.

That looks like it's in Palmer Park. You probably know it. It's a beautiful park in the middle of the city. I used to take my kids there for hiking and picnics, and it felt like we were in the mountains.

He used to sit behind a curve that had trees. When a car came out of the trees he would fling rocks or dirt clods at the cars. I bet he found waving got him more treats.

I think in National Parks they have learned to wave back.

Here are two waving bears in same clip:
