Trump tightens grip on coronavirus information as he pushes to restart the economy

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-tightens-grip-on-coronavirus-information-as-he-pushes-to-restart-the-economy/2020/05/07/d4a05e42-9068-11ea-a9c0-73b93422d691_story.html

President Trump in recent weeks has sought to block or downplay information about the severity of the coronavirus pandemic as he urges a return to normalcy and the rekindling of an economy that has been devastated by public health restrictions aimed at mitigating the outbreak.
His administration has sidelined or replaced officials not seen as loyal, rebuffed congressional requests for testimony, dismissed jarring statistics and models, praised states for reopening without meeting White House guidelines and, briefly, pushed to disband a task force created to combat the virus and communicate about the public health crisis.
Several Republican governors are following Trump’s lead as an effort takes shape to control the narrative about a pandemic that has continued to rage throughout a quickly reopening country. With polls showing most consumers still afraid to venture out of their homes, the Trump administration has intensified its efforts to soothe some of those fears through a messaging campaign that relies on tightly controlling information about a virus that has proven stubbornly difficult to contain.

Make no mistake. They are going all in on authoritarian government denial of facts and hiding of data from the public.

We already have inadequate testing for true numbers and severely underestimated the deaths.

It’s about to much much worse.

...that couldn't care a whit what PINO wants.
Now add in Ohio, and several other dem governors, and 65% of the US has governors that are going to provide real numbers. At the least!
I'll grant you FL & TX, 2 high population states that could cheat the stats. But, if the governor of ND cheats the numbers, what difference will it make?

Even in states where they try to hide the statistics, you can't hide overwhelmed hospitals and dead bodies. That will get out.

Choosing economy and labor over public health. A whole lot of us are going to die in the process. Expect this to get much worse.

that there was not one word said about our local numbers, testing sites and situation at area hospitals. It is as if the story of Covid-19 just dried up. The only related story they did was a local beauty salon that is struggling because they are still not allowed to open. Up until now they have led with the local number Of victims and where there was testing. It seems like the interest in the story has peaked. Crazy. I guess when we are fully open and numbers start rising people will get interested again.

We have had several wild fires across three counties so those were top stories, of course. But to not mention the Covid-19 stats is just odd when for weeks that is how they led each news cast.

Guess when tRump decides we’re moving on, we will be moving on.

Some of us may have other thoughts about that.
