The GOP response to COVID is a frontal attack on the whole idea of workplace safety, which the Republicans have hated all along. In their minds, if a job is unsafe, then workers should just quit and find another job. Basically, people should have the "right" to work in unsafe environments. In McConnell's dream world, there would be no OSHA, and workers would have the "choice" between risking their lives at unsafe jobs or starving.
That's part of what the rush to open is about. Instead of workers staying home until it's safe to go back to work, and being supported by UBI/Unemployment (which would cost a fraction of the corporate bailouts), they want to force people to choose between exposure to a deadly virus and quitting their job, meaning no unemployment.
And getting rid of the ability of workers to sue is another layer.

Look for legislation immunizing businesses from liability arising from COVID-19 to be fast-tracked by Republican-controlled state legislatures and the US Senate in the coming weeks.
