(22,037 posts)Mr. Rothkopf makes an excellent plan for a renewal of the United States should we rid ourselves of Trump.
Sadly, I doubt it will happen. When I look at our country and I see ~40% of Americans who support Trump and the Republicans, I don't see the community spirit that existed after Pearl Harbor or 9/11.
There are Americans who don't care if our elderly or weak die. They don't care if their fellow citizens have healthcare. They don't care if ~20% of our children are starving every day.
They don't give a shit about anyone except themselves and their tribe.
They don't understand the Constitution.
They don't understand history.
They don't understand civics or even good manners.
They don't give a shit.
They are un-American and in their numbers, it will be Herculean to rebuild our country.
40% is too high a percentage to make fundamental changes in our country. Why are there so many Americans who dont care about their fellow citizens?

(11,738 posts)We have always been divided in this country. I mean we fought a Civil War 160 years ago. There have been ebbs and flows in our unity. The major difference today is that while most people actually agree with policies that are typically Democratic policies, the division has been increased by right wing media. We used to argue using the same set of facts, but as those facts never favored conservative thought, they decided that they needed to create their own propaganda to create a delusional reality for their adherents. Now, they have a solid base of people who live in a fantasy world and do not get the information that the rest of us get.

I, for one, have the utmost respect for the younger people in our country. I believe they will build a far better country than the Greed is Good people did.
