Shortly after my 7th birthday. My parents were big Eisenhower supporters that year, so I didn't get it from them. I was sick with tonsillitis a lot that summer, and so watched both conventions. They were on during the day back then.

and parents using your children as trained props.

I was involved in politics very early - with my parents' encouragement, but at my initiative. My views did, generally, concur with my parents - but out of 5 siblings, I was the only one involved in politics in late elementary/early middle school.
