Kemp said he opened Georgia because cases were declining. So he lied about thatThe state of Georgia made it look like its covid cases were going down ***by putting the dates out of order on its chart*** May 5 was followed by April 25, then back to May again, whatever made it look like a downslope.
Gov. Brian Kemps office issued an apology after a Georgia Public Health Department chart wrongly reported a downward trend in #coronavirus cases. The error was at least the third in as many weeks:

(115,735 posts)Whoever did it figured out a way to make a chart where the data were technically correct but displayed in such a way that anybody who just glanced at the chart - which most people probably do - would infer that the trend was downward. These idiots aren't even competent at being dishonest.

(33,643 posts)Chart making tools typically allow for sort orders to be set ... you could set it for 'by date ascending' or 'by count descending'. It's POSSIBLE someone could've been looking at it in one mode and forgot to set it back before release.
That said ... making that mistake 3 times is extremely unlikely.
And if it was not PERFECTLY in descending order (e.g. only some of the data in the chart followed that pattern), that would also be extremely suspect.

I'm with you. Making this sort of mistake 3 times "feels" intentional.

(6,008 posts)The whole point of a chart like that is to convey information quickly, correctly, and succinctly. They're either purposefully lying, or staggeringly incompetent at their job. I don't care which, but either one should cause them to lose their job.

(3,492 posts)They are deliberately manipulating the data, outright fabricating it or not reporting it at all in the red states to further an agenda.
Its disgusting and deadly.

(25,981 posts)to the inevitable deaths, somebody should have lot of lawsuits coming his way. I know it sounds quaint in this day and age, but given the stakes maybe an ethics charge, or I dunno, a criminal charge might be in order too. Kemp straight up lied to people, and some of them will die. It's not right for him to be able to shrug and walk away free of responsibility for that.
