FDA appears to soften stance on hydroxychloroquine after Trump says he takes malaria drug

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday that taking hydroxychloroquine is “ultimately” a choice between patients and their health-care providers, appearing to soften its earlier advisory against taking the anti-malaria drug outside of a hospital.

“The decision to take any drug is ultimately a decision between a patient and their doctor,” FDA Commissioner (and trump toady) Dr. Stephen Hahn said in a statement to CNBC. “Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are already FDA-approved for treating malaria, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis.”

Donny’s ample ass? Even the discredited study that kicked everything off only used it on people who already had COVID-19, iirc.

Mortgages, private school tuition, expensive toys, etc can really weigh heavily on principle.

From Washington Post:

“If Hahn is confirmed, he will be taking a significant pay cut, according to the Post. The newspaper said, citing Texas records, that Hahn's MD Anderson salary for the fiscal 2019 year was $933,600, and his total compensation was $1.3 million. The FDA commissioner has an annual salary of about $160,000.”

From Wikipedia:

“In April 2020, Hahn instructed Federal Emergency Management Administrator Peter Gaynor "to distribute hydroxychloroquine to pharmacies nationwide, even though [an Emergency Use Authorization issued by the FDA] did not provide for outpatient use of the drug," according to a whistleblower complaint filed by HHS infectious disease expert Rick Bright.”
