Sometimes it's necessary. In extreme circumstances.

If someone invaded your home and try to take it over, and there were no law or police to protect you, you'd have a war. Unless you just wanted to move out and let them have it. If they didn't kill you, first.

But we don't want a war with Iran. Esp. NOW. Or Libya. Or Syria.

really? I know what you are eluding to, but I think stating certain posters would not exist is a bit exaggerated.

In essence, war is NOT necessary, and should be something we all strive to prevent by means of politics, even better a say by a majority through a democratic process.

Because there are some brutal, greedy people in the world who would just as soon kill you as you look at you. If you don't want that to happen, whether you are an individual or a country, you go to war. If you don't, you cease to exist. Gaul no longer exists, pre-Britain - gone, Rome - kaput. They fought wars to try to prevent their being wiped out, but they lost. Had they not fought at all, more lives would've been saved, but those countries would've been wiped out just the same.

War is part of life on Earth and the human existence. It exists in the lives of every creature on earth, including man. Chimpanzees go to war...apes go to war. It is neither good nor bad. It is necessary to protect ourselves. Or we cease to exist. It's that simple.

It's not necessary for that someone else. As you say: They can just move out. Or just die. Or just live in slavery. Perhaps couple other possibilities... or just plant some peace virus into the warlike tribe. Whatever works, a pygmi tribe pacified a warlike neighbor tribe with ibogaine.
