https://thehill.com/homenews/media/499234-charlamagne-tha-god-defends-bidens-support-for-black-communityCharlamagne tha God defended former Vice President Joe Biden's support for the black community following their Friday morning interview. In an interview on Charlamagne's popular radio show, "The Breakfast Club," Biden said, "If you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or for Trump, then you ain't black."
The quote generated much backlash against the presumptive Democratic nominee, prompting him to issue an apology Friday afternoon, saying, "I shouldn't have been such a wise guy. I shouldn't have been so cavalier." Before Biden's apology, Charlamagne defended the former vice president in response to a request from Mediate:
Charlamagne said during the interview following Biden's comment about black voters, "It don't have nothing to do with Trump. It has to do with the fact that I want something for my community." "Take a look at my record, man," Biden said in response. "I extended the Voting Rights Act 25 years. I have a record that is second to none. The NAACP has endorsed me every time I've run. Come on, take a look at my record."

(96,043 posts)As you have noted elsewhere, he has quite a following, and that he is speaking to quash this dust-up will be helpful. It will isolate, and should make obviously ridiculous, the handful of tweeting twits and key-board commandos trying to piggy-back their own agendas onto it.

(46,154 posts)I took zero offence and actually LIKED to see Biden get fired up and animated for a change. I want him to show this level of energy against Trump!! Joe just needs to always remember that even though he is by nature garrulous and gets (again by nature) casual and intimate and raw with some people that he feels comfortable with, he is always, always under a microscope from now on.
At the end of the day, a tempest in a teapot for me, with the usual suspects will poutraging on, but I see little to no overall damage.
The Magistrate
(96,043 posts)A good many people read being 'fired up and animated' as being tough and a fighter. This is a quality people like in politicians. People want somebody who will fight for them.

(46,154 posts)staggeringly great skills would have rubbed off onto Joe via 8 years of proximity-driven osmosis.
I still have complete faith in VP Biden though. At heart he means well, and in terms of heart, his is MASSIVE.

(3,263 posts)The reality is that he will be subject to more scrutiny than Trump is. Dems always are, but it is particularly true if if the Democrat is perceived to to have a strong relationship with PoC or, of course, is a PoC themself.

and more than just a little, on the VP markets.

(11,767 posts)I think Rice and Demmings would be best though. Rice because she has worked with Biden before so there would be a familiarity. Plus she is super smart and a bad ass. Demmings would be my second choice. She is also super smart and able to cut right through bullshit. I would follow her as President on Day 1 if anything should happen to Biden and she'd be ready.

Demings I like a lot, but she has only 3 and a half years as a House Rep, has no other elective office experience (other than a failed 2012 House campaign.)
Abrams was my favourite for over a year now, but I have come off the boil on her, although I still think she would help us win (all 4 would, but Biden is risk-averse so may be wary of the Benghazi claptrap with Rice, fucking Rethugs, grrrrrrrrrrrr)

(6,991 posts)Yeah, he should be himself at all times but sometimes, Joe has to learn that he will never BE afforded the wide birth fat ass STILLgets from the mostly mainstream media who jump on him (Joe) when he makes a gaffe/mistake, and who still laugh off tRumpcaronavirus' racism, murdering, sexism et al. So, Joe has to watch himself. You should have seen the tRumpers jumping on what Biden said today on twitter. Like they can talk. Look at the big, fat, orange grand dragon THEY have leading their party.
NO WAY in the world do I think Joe's ANYTHING like that tRumpcaronavirus murdering ass installed in the White House. Joe comes from a different time and place and sometimes he can say some things But at least he has a heart filled with emotion. Cares about others, and is not the narcissistic, racist, ass wipe tRump IS.
BIDEN IS HUMAN.
tRumpcaronavirus murderer is inhuman.

When Clarence Thomas voiced his opinion about affirmative action, and being against the Brown verses the board of education decision, I recall the Uncle Tom names hurled toward him by some

(15,715 posts)For one, the Democratic Party nominated and supported, and put their blood sweat and tears into electing the first African American president in history.
This President passed the largest expansion of health care in history.
This President appointed 2 women, including a minority woman to the Supreme Court.
This President nominated and got confirmed, countless federal judges that support civil rights legislation and voting rights.
This President nominated and got confirmed the first African American Attorney General in history. That's right. The most senior law enforcement agent in the land was a black man.
I really could go on and on, but... how did we support him and his party?
We turned 2/3rds of the State Houses and both Houses of Congress over to T-Bagging racists after just 2 years of this Presidents term.
Imagine the judges that could have been confirmed. Imagine the progress that could have been made.
We could easily have a 6-3 majority on the Supreme Court today. We could have hundreds of federal judges that would enforce the rule of law, not some racist Federalists Society jackboots.
It's not African Americans... it's Democrats as a hole. Change requires persistence. We can't turn the levers of power over to wingnuts in just 2 years, and then bemoan the fact that our priorities are not being addressed.
We must treat every election as critical to our priorities, because they are.
That's what is depressing to me.
I think of what the possibilities could have been.
It makes me so angry I can't see straight.

(26,988 posts)during the interview. Last night on Colbert's show the first words out of his mouth were "Hey, man." He says "man" a lot. How do they not know this?
Same people lost their minds about Hillary "pandering" by saying she had hot sauce in her purse while on the same show, when all they had to do is Google it to find out she's been a hot sauce fan since 1992 and does indeed carry some wherever she goes.
And the sentence: if you can't figure out the difference between him and Trump, "then you ain't black."
Same thing lots of people have said, like in Steve Almond's book "Bad Stories" when he writes about a young friend who's transformed from politically knowledgable into believing conspiracies and that both candidates where the same because of anti-Democratic propaganda on the internet:
"The conservative movement fosters this false equivalence, which breeds apathy and depresses turnout. 'A vote for hillary is a vote for trump,' Jon wrote a few weeks before the election, which is how you know he isn't a person of color, or a Muslim, or an immigrant."

We Need to Talk About Joe Bidens The Breakfast Club Interview

I do admit, this made me LOL:
Im not acknowledging anybody who is being considered, but I guarantee you, there are multiple black women being considered. Multiple, Biden said, Politico reports.
Also this:
Jezebel is pretty brutal too, and like The Root, goes far beyond just the 'man' thing
Biden not getting much love from the younger age cohort skewering and PoC-centric MSM and magazines atm

The conversation meandered about technicalities over sentencing, drug rehabilitation, and the like, until the topic of Bidens running mate came up. Charlemagne noted that people on social media werent happy that Senator Amy Klobuchar was being vetted for the role, and pointed out a Washington Post op-ed that argues why Biden needs a black woman as a running mate. Biden refused to offer more details about his VP search while his handler insisted that Biden had run out of time.
But Biden made sure he signed off on a deeply cringe-worthy note: If you have a problem figuring out whether youre for me or Trump, you aint black!
Black Americans have more to lose under another four years of Trump, but perhaps ones blackness-quota isnt Bidens call to make.
Someone, please, tighten Bidens muzzle.

Just like last time, the goal is to shave off votes by making the candidate look racist. How these people can do it with a straight face when the alternative is Trump, I don't know. Don't know how they sleep at night. Ironically, these are also the same people who accused anyone who thought the ACA with a public option had a much much better chance at getting enough votes than a vague Medicare for All idea, of being a terrible person wanting millions to die.
